cobalt injectors
Saturday, March 01, 2008 12:25 AM
hey i got some cobalt injectors which happen to be the same as the injectors that come in the 2002 cavalier supercharger kit. i have an 04, which i believe the injectors are 0.250" longer than the cobalt injectors. i bought the kit used and it has those injectors. rather than spending 200+ on a new set of injectors, what can i do to the head to make the injectors fit in there? do i "drill" the hole 0.250" deeper?

any input would be appreciated, thanks.

Id say give them a test fit and see if they work. I know people a really into proper injector length, but as long as it seals, and the injector nozel is ruffly in the same location, you really shouldnt I have being playing with forced induction a long time, and I have NEVER heard of somone running into injector fitment issues with our motors.

ok im just making sure, since the cobalt injector is 0.25" shorter that the 03-04 SC kit injectors. our cars use high impedance injectors right?

so if there is a fitment issue, what would need to be done to make them fit? (besides getting the correct injectors )

tnx

Yes you would need a retune because of the different size injectors. The car will run fine with them, but a little rich. The injectors will fit right in no problems.

i thought that depending on the injector that you had to redrill the hole that mounts the fuel rail to the head a 1/4 inch higher up then just dremel out the slot to fit

not with cobalt injectors.

I just installed the Cobalt SS injectors last night..You do not need to redrill..Just drop in and thats it..And yes you will need to retune right away with them...

but did the PCM have the GM SC flash, becasue then you cant "tune" it....

how well do you think the car would run with the reflash without the SC on it until i put it on?

the electrical is plug and play, but you'll either need a 2002 eco fuel rail, or to redrill the mounting holes for the cobalt injectors.

the 2002 fuel rail is the easiest even tho it isn't really the prettiest... i'm not really comfortable with redrilling my fuel rail to fit the injectors.. what if you want to put differ injectors down the road? then you're screwed and need a new rail.

I have the 02 rail with cobalt injectors. It fits perfectly fine, if you are putting them in a 03+ eco motor that uses the newer rail you will need to remove the plastic spacers that sit inside the Fuel injector hole on the head of the motor. Harness is plug and play as well.

Warning though your ve tables will be off unless you retune them which will be worthless if you aren't adding any more power adders at the current moment.

When I purchased the injectors back over the summer before i boosted the car, I put them in and fixed the injector constant but since they flow so much more than stock, it threw my ve tables off.

And how many ss/sc injectors have you tried to put in an 03+ fuel rail? They are significantly shorter than the stock 03+ fuel injectors, as for the whole swapping to the 02 rail, I'm not too sure that's a good idea either. Why not go out and find 36lb injectors that are 60mm o-ring to o-ring, that way you can maintain you're stock rail and don't have to screw w/ that pos stock 02 garbage.

Yeah but would require the purchase of an 02 rail and line set. I happen to have an 02 rail that was discarded over the weekend if you do so choose that route bret, but I recommend going with these.

Oh and chris, why don't you leave the ecotec stuff to the people that actually appreciate and KNOW the motor, rather than someone that has a bias against them.

Oh and dumb @!#$, who do you think is helping with this?

maby i should leave it alone, let him become just another eco moron, ya know, not thinking out side what the norm is.

ya know, like you with your mad 14 sec runs..

thumbs up buddy!

LOL

But Tom knows me a little better than you... but if it makes you sleep any better at night, your right. i have never done anything with a eco in my life!

Moving on. Bret when you get the cal ID, call me and ill flash it with the Tec II at work. well go from there, if need be we can throw the injectors in. play it by ear, i may have some 02-05 eco PCMs laying around at work.
