I was told that the factory exhaust on the 2002 2.4L has a 2.25 inch diameter. What is the point of going to a muffler shop and getting 2.25 besides replacing the other components?
I believe factory exhaust is actually 1 7/8 in. so 2.25 in. is a good improvement for better performance.
Factory exhaust isnt 2.25".
even if it were 2.25" the reason you could get to the shop and get a different set-up would be mandrel bent tubing vs. the factory pipes which may have just been bent, mandrel bent is consistently the same dimensions throughout, whereas a factory bend could leave ripples on the inside.
not saying this is true for our cars, because i really havent done anything with my exhaust yet, but on other cars, fords, hyundai, honda, i have seen the factory tubes, and they are very restrictive around bends.
All 3rd gen j-bodies had the same exhaust from the cat-back (except for the sunfire gt) except for different hangers, or hanger locations. I believe the change was in or around 99. The piping is still the same with regards to diameter, bend locations, and bend types, just different
