ported throttle body.

I seen a ported throttle body on ebay the price was cheap so I broke down and bought it. When I got it I looked it over and the barrel was pretty rough. When I put the throttle plate in that he had sent me there was a lot of space between the plate and the walls. I put the tb in the car just to see where I was with it. When I started the car it had a fast idle around 2500 rpms and would oscillate up and down like it was trying to adjust the gas for the air. So I pulled it out I poilished the edges of the throttle plate and beveled them so it would close more. I noticed on the throttle body that there was a small indent and it was only noticeable when the plate was closed. I could see very little light around the throttle plate except for that one spot. I put it back on the engine and started it. The engine ran a lot slower I got the idle down to about 1200 rpms. But I could smell a lot of gas. I pulled it out and took it to a local machine guy he thought it was a @!#$ty port job. He is going to try to fix it if he can, and port another that I had laying around. I'm hoping to get the idle down to what stock idle is around 900rpm. I still haven't had the ecu programed since the rebuild. I will try to have that done after I finnish my exhaust. I'm just taking things in small steps when I have extra $$. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=004&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWN%3AIT&viewitem=&item=140213924973&rd=1

You might be having the same issue i am with mine. I used my old 2.4L IAC sensor with my bored out 62mm TB from the 2.3L HO, and when it idles, it smells like gas. Im assuming the stock IAC is confused, so it is injecting more fuel into the engine to compinsate for the extra air.

Did you try adjusting the throttle stop to where the plate could sit closed?

I read that auction and noticed it said you might need to tune for the tb because of the idle. YOU DO NOT NEED TO TUNE FOR THE IDLE. If it does not idle right than there is a good chance the tb is f'ubar esp if it was bored to 59mm at the smallest point.

on the ebay page, it kinda tells you that some cars will idle at 1200 instead of the oem 900... so there u go, that explains it?

do the 2.2 and 2.4 have the same throttle body?
i cant believe you payed $50 for that POS. 58mm is supposed to be the biggest you can port the TB anyway.

yes, 58mm on a stock 2.4 TB is all you can go. but then there is sleeving to go even further than that, which you can go up to 62mm.

it's really up to the person that wants what done to decide, 58mm is $170 through SMG... 62mm is around $400 through MRZ Performance. thats RIGHT NOW, i have no idea if RSM still does it nor if them or their new 'company' Z-spec are even around yet.

LN2 & LD9: Different TB's from what I've gathered.

Go beyond the "bolt-on".

I did try to adjust where the throttle stop was. and I also bevelled it a bit better then it was and I was able to slow the idle down to about 1200 rpms. But the throttle stop didnt have much of an afffect becuase the plate was cut flat when the guy gut it. You could see alot of light through the plate before I started on it. After I finnished it was much better but and could see almost no light except for one side where there was a small indent where there was too much material ground away. It almost looks like he used a grinder on it. Oh well, it cost $50. My machine guy is doing this one and another one for around $50 and thats including the plates. If he cant fix the one I'll just sell it to some schmuck.
