Hey,
So this is my layout. Ive got a '95 cavalier with the 2.2l, auto tranny (

) 4 door,....
Ive got it recently (maybe 2 weeks) and i would like to achive better performance with my car without ditching alot of $$$ (seeing that this car dident cost me alot of $$$

)
Up to now, ive checked air filter,it was clean, Changed the plugs ( i think that the original plugs where still in there :S ) and i am up to that point.
ANy other idears?
(btw, i also read that on the 95 cavalier 2.2 the would be a way to change the chip in the ECU, is there any more info on that? Is it hard does it cost alot?)
Thanks

THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE, i have already died once and im still here so lets just leave it on the track
Well.. your first step would be to open the hood, remove everything you find in it and drop in the ecotec...
Just kidding, I dont really know anything about the pre-03 models, but on a general aspect (which sounds like what you are looking for) I agree with tinman the first logical step would be a new intake, there is lots of information floating around about the different types (cold/short ram). You wont really notice much if any difference with just the intake, it works in conjunction with other mods. A good intake will run you about $250-$300 Second choice would be a header/exhaust swap, again mainly gets more out of later mods but is a good first/second step. Exhaust etc. is more expensive so you probably wont go that route for now. Again I dont know much about the pre-03's but I do know if your car is OBD1 then there should be a "chip" available to you. Now about the money thing, with cars like many other things, you get what you pay for, and speed is not cheap. Any other info you need im more than happy to talk with you and these forums are full of goodies you just have to look around.

.....no..... ALL intakes do the same thing, a cheapy ebay intake is the same as the aem or any other type intake made for the ln2, you can get one for like $40. to get you started you are gonna want to upgrade the exhaust (header, cat, cat-back exhaust), then look into spark like msd ignition (coilpacks, dis-2 ignition). then after all that is said and done their is alot of head work that is available like port & polish and valve job (s.s. valves, Aft. Mkt. cam or regrind), and then there is the forced induction way but your strapped on money right now so ill leave that out. just start off on the little things first like the exhaust and intake mods and then save a little for some head work and your set. also the chip chris carr is talking about

so go ahead and forget about that one. but figured i would chime in on this a lil bit
hondas are like tampons.....every pu$$y needs one...
mildly built 99' ln2, eagle h-beam rods, wiseco forged alum. pistons, cusco oil catch, t3/t4 super 60 garret, tial 40 mm wastegate, hp tuners, prothane mount inserts, 2.5" exhaust.

yes.

no. the $700 could be better spent elsewhere, as the stock 2.2 ignition system is very stout.

actually, if you shop around, do the research, and LEARN how all the pieces go together, boost doesnt have to be ridiculously expensive.

actually, the 95 cars can be chipped. its a flashable eprom system. THIS IS NOT to be confused with the $20 ebay chips,as yes, they are junk.

yea my bad on that one!!! i thought he was refering to the chips sold on ebay as a good upgrade. But as stated by the o.p. he's straped on money right now and all the things involved with even piecing a turbokit together could get expensive, I mean you got the manifold, hp tuners (unless your running piggyback, emanage, etc.), turbo, tuning and even there is a money factor. but for your answer on the msd, it's not as expensive as you think, I mean ebay helps out alot. I bought my control module off of there a year ago for $175.00 and its like brand new and i paid $25 a piece for my coilpacks new. but yea i appreciate you jumping in and giving some pointers

you could also do the 2.3 throttle body swap, usually you can find one on here for about 50 bucks or so. The throttle body will go on will little modification of the cable wheel and you willll have to make your own gasket.
lol, i guess i should have been a little more specific. Yes, the ebay ones work just as good as aem, injen etc. so my bad on that one, i was just going by name brands. again my bad. The way i was looking at this was from a very budget restricted point of view. Good advice though from everyone, I hope the o.p benefits from it. The only thing I was concerned about (again money wise), is unless the o.p is coming from a city with tuner shops etc. HPtuners is a little expensive no? Like $500 i think? Great idea down the road, im actually thinking about picking one up as I am from a little town where crappy tire is about the closest we have to a tuner shop. Absolutely correct me if im wrong, as I am here to learn AND share knowledge. Speaking of shops we really need some CNC around here lol.
The O.P. said he had a 2.2 which as I recall means he can't use the 2.3 throttle bodyor any engine piece from them like the LD9 guys. Correct me if I am wrong because then I learned something today.
yea the 2.3l throttle body bolts right up to the 2200 but not the 2.2l, it has the other intake manifold and throttle body that postion it on top of the vavle cover. But anyway, chris like i was telling rich there would be alot of things to consider if he was going boost like tuning and all of the components you need to piece a kit together, believe me thats what i have done and it took me forever and still came out to be like $1500.00 altogether. like i stated before just start off with some exhaust and intake mods and then look into some head work. Ask madjack about some things you can do to 2.2l he's a guru on valve train work. do some searching, you'll be suprised what you can find on the ol' ln2!!!
