Balts eco vs Cavis eco

Okay so i know the balts eco and the cavs eco is the same motor but the balts has like 8 more horses than the cavs and i was talking to a guy that owns a balt and he said they just made it breath better, so what really gives it more horses? can i take those parts and put them on my cav im thinking a different tb or intake manifold?? i dunno

If it breathes better.. more air and more fuel makes more power..

the 2.4 eco intake manifold and throttlebody with a 2.5 in. 90 elbow coupler and 2.5 in. pipe 4 feet long with a 90 after 1 foot. and a dry flow filter. will give you notable gains when driving 8-12 hp range realistically i think.

its called electric power steering. the removal of that hydraulic power assist system frees up some lost power

the other minute changes made little difference

2.2 cavalier > 2.2 cobalt

This is what i was told on my local forum (with mostly cobalt drivers) by a 2.2 cobalt driver

I have raced a stock 2003 Z24 cavi (i think) and an 05 cavi with I/H/E when I had only my intake and catback and beat both. But honestly blue, If you can break out of the 17's... Be happy

well first off the last year the cavalier Z24 was made was in 2002 and both the 2.4L twin cam engine and the 2.2L ecotec engine perform almost identically. second both the cavalier z24 and the cavalier 2.2 eco are much lighter than the cobalt so i doubt a cobalt beat both. i can say that with confidence for myself since i have raced a 2006 2.2 eco cobalt base model with my 2001 2.4L cavalier LS sedan which has only intake and exhaust hooked up right now. raced him from a 40 roll and within 4 seconds i already had a full car length ahead of him. yes cobalts are nice (although i prefer the looks of a cavalier) but they are too bulky to beat a cavalier even with the same engine as it.

how bout the 2008 balts tho, they have the 2.4 eco with 170-175 hp compared to the regular quad 4's that only have 150-155 stock hp..

yesh but thats the new cobalt ss, and i still dont know what GM was thinking when they stopped making the cobalt SS S/C and put in the 2.4L eco instead. but we are talking about the 2.2L eco cobalts anyways.

ok i understand that your talking bout the 2.2 ecos, but for the record the cobalt ss is no longer supercharged (its turbocharged) and its a 2.0 not a 2.4..gm has a 170hp 2.4 that is n/a

In Canada the Z24 name stayed even after the 2.4 was gone.

The new SS used the LNF engine, 260 HP and 260 TQ unless they pulled things back a little to save the driveline. Its a completely different engine from the 2.0 S/C.

actually they make about 55 more hp than the s/c, but they came out in 08...my point was just to inform you that the 2.4 is not gm's sc/tc motor...its a 2.0...

oh sorry, i live in the U.S. and they had the cobalt SS S/C 2.0 from 2006 to 2007, then for 2008 they had the 2.4 eco for the SS and then i was looking through the GM website and said that the new SS turbo 2.0 was coming out in 2009. and yeah i bet that new SS turbo kicks butt, i would love to test drive one .

hahah you have no idea how many j's are in Canada. I can't believe how many i see. Us Canadians like our cheap compact cars (most likely why the Civic is the best selling car in Canada)

oh john its not that i didnt believe u its just im suprised that the SS turbo is already into production even though they announced it was gonna come out in 09'. they must have had a huge demand to bring it out early. and yeah scott i can tell there are alot of jbodies in canada, haha and most of the nice ones like carey965. its like most of the jbodies on the photos and media forums have canada tags.

id say it comes down to whos a better driver but if he says he removes passenger seats he might have an advantage cuz he drops weight. but i dont think that would be fair cuz if he drops his passenger seats u should also be able to do the same.

considering that your car weighs about 150lbs less, i would still have to say that he would win, for the simple fact that his car comes stock with 10 more hp, and he has some aftermarket mods....and by the way your not gonna have a noticable gain by taking out the passenger seat on a n/a car...sorry

You also have what i believe is a 200-300 pound weight advantage just in the car over him. I may be wrong on that number but that is what i recall hearing.

^^he will not have a really noticable gain in speed or power by dropping his seat^^^
