Lower it. Get some nice rims, then intake and full exhaust.

My wife's 03 Sunfire has a 2 1/4 turbo muffler, 2 1/4 piping all the way to the downpipe, a 2 1/4 cat, and a 2 1/2 resonator. The resonator is bigger to compensate for all the baffling inside the pipe.

We also added a drop in K&N filter to make it breath a little better.

Recently a ground wire kit was installed, and yes, no matter what all the people say who do not have one and guess they do not work, they do add a little more response to the motor and a couple more ponies. At $30, it is worth it.

The 2.2 Ecotec seems to have plenty of air coming in on the intake side in stock configuration.
In fact many people with CAIs get lean codes, which is why the K&N filter to me was enough.

The exhaust side for this car is another story, it loves the 2 1/4 inch set-up.

Some say to go 2 1/2, but I personally feel that is too big for naturally aspirated.

If you just want to go fast, buy the GM supercharger kit off of www.crateenginedepot.com and that will make that engine 200hp.

Some say the pulley that comes with it is incorrect, as sometimes people get a dead spot that is from going lean and the computer is compensating so you wont damage the motor. The fix seems to be to get a different pulley size.

If you go supercharge, you CANT leave the exhaust stock, go 2 1/2 at least, possibly 3 inch.

Headers and downpipes are a good power adder, but I personally will be porting the exhaust manifold and getting a 2 1/4 downpipe made. Why? Emmissions is why, I do not want to have to revert back to stock because the police or DMV tells me to or else I would get fined and still have to revert.

Underdrive pulleys blow IMHO. Why? The underdrive pulley is supposed to be heavy to dampen the vibration of the crank shaft. If you lighten it, over time the vibration will ruin the motor. I have tried this with two other cars and had problems shortly after. One had a bearing go out and the other started making odd noises.

15" Trak Lite rims is what me and the wife want. They are very light at only 10lbs each! I am not worried about cracking these, as we are only pushing maybe 155hp max at the motor. I do not want larger tires as I am not having traction issues with 15s. Going bigger just means more weight, less up and go and less gas mileage. Yes the handling and traction is better, but to a point. Way too big will make you have a very uncomfortable ride, too much vibration and you feel all road imperfections.

Look into some poly engine mounts, this adds a little more response to the throttle.

I have not seen anything really for the Ecotec coil or plugwire wise.

I do not personally want to lower the Sunfire, the body kit is already tough to get into some places without damaging the front lip of the bumper. This is a commuter car, not a racer.

I might end up getting the supercharger if the price drops a little more, if it costed how much they want for the 2.4, I would be on that in a heartbeat.

1st off there isn't a difference on our cars between a CA or WADI. It has been proven with IAT readings. 2nd if you read little bit about our factory tune, we run rich from the factory. With that said i have been running a K&N Typhoon for 6 months and have yet to throw a lean code.

There is also the Hahn Racecraft Stage 1 and Stage 2 turbo kits. More power for alittle more money. The cost of the GMPP charger and the Hahn Stage 1 are close enough that i cannot justify buying the supercharger. I will probably end up piecing together my own turbo kit.

Im assuming this is for the visual check. Have you looked into the LSJ manifold?

RKsport sells replacement coil springs that connect the coil to the plug. I bought them and installed them, i didnt notice any difference. People have also ditched the coil over plug design and installed MSD coil packs and wires. I know Skunk is running this set-up.

If your looking for a fun DD, i would recommend the supercharger. But if you want a weekend driver with alot of power then i recommend looking into turbochargers. There are a few people that are trying to get power without boost or nitrous. Its very expensive and alot of hard work.

I have heard many say they have thrown a lean code with their CAI.
This has been with AEM and Injen.
Your K&N Typhoon on the net says it produces less hp than the AEM or Injen.
Maybe they lie and K&N doesn't.
Or, K&N is set-up so it does not let in too much?
I don't know on that, but what I do know is the complaints I have read from people popping CELs from CAIs and they say they are running lean.
If the car runs rich, then kindly explain why the AEM and Injen are having people get CELs.

Agreed that the turbo is better, but... I did say:

I said this because I do not want to put 'that' much money into modding this car. If they sell the 2.2 SC set-up for $1500, I am on it.

Turbo kits are like $3k and then the shop wants at least $1k to install and tune.

The SC kit 'if' it was $1.5k, I hear they want $750 to install.
200-220hp is plenty enough for me personally.
$2200 or so total into a forced air induction set-up is the most I want to spend personally.

I have read these supposed replacement coil springs are actually detrimental and I have not considered them.
I would like to upgrade the coil packs though, and MSD in the past has done me good.
Are you saying that people have changed the design by adding some sort of MSD kit?
Please explain.

thanks everyone. but what would you do to my 2002 Z24?

This is what I would do in a heatbeat if I had a Z-24 with the 2.4 liter engine.
