Hi all a couple of months ago I had a muffler installed in my 5 speed cavalier. The muffler looks like this
http://www.mufflermall.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=612&zenid=0080607fae075054c235e75fd8c3c63f. Not sure if it is the same brand but it looks like it. I have a serious problem though. It is really loud a deep. At first it was fun but now it is just anoying. Is there anyway I can decrease the sound without altering performance. I made a mistake and had the original muffler thrown away so replacing it is not an option.
Oh I also can't get a break from the cops they always think I am speeding. At my recent encounter a cop pulled me over and wrote me a warnning because of the loudness and i can only imagine what my neighbours are thinking everytime I start the vehicle.
I dont think (unless you have a cat-back installed as well) that youll lose any performance with a muffler thats quieter.
I would get a different style muffler, or a glasspack/resonator to go inline before it to quiet it down.
You dont gain any performance with just a muffler installed(which im assuming you do). Hack a stocker off a cavy in the junkyard and put it back on.
buy a new muffler. Take one off a junker like Tinkles said or buy a resonator/glasspack and toss it in after the cat like Matt said.
resonator is your friend

you have one, it's to small now to do anything.. buy a bigger one

"If you have no clue what's going on... STFU!"
I was looking at a couple of resonators online there are so many of them them that I am not sure which one I should think about getting. Do you have any Ideas as to which one will work for me? I also wanted to know the location of the resonator and does it have to be welded on or bolted on?
resonator should go right after the cat, in your mid pipe. Magnaflow makes good resonators but im biased. Cherrybombs can work just as well. Depending on how much you want to quiet ur system down will then determine the length you will get.
Ok thanks for all the info.
