97' Z24 engine swapping ?????
Sunday, April 27, 2008 4:08 PM
I have a 1997 Z/24. My car has lots of miles and the performance is crap.
What engines would be good candidates for a swap? Anything that would bolt up?
Would rebuilding the engine be more pratical than swapping?
Cost?

97-98 2.4 twin cam would be ideal.
97-02 2.4 will work.

The car has a stock 2.4. Is the 2.4 twin cam a different engine?

mike is referring to the same motor that you currently have. he has not suggested anything less than 97 mostly because alot of states/provinces have laws against swapping in a motor that is older than the car it is going into, like putting in a 96 2.4 or 95 2.3 into your 97 z24.

the ecotec can be done, but it is alot more difficult of a swap for a car that is not 00+ as its a different communication network in the car (from what i gather). 3400 and 3800 V6's are also do-able, but would not be easily swapped in.

as for rebuilding your current motor, thats up to you. price out the rebuild versus a motor swap.
