Ok i got a 2.4 with 87000kms outta a cavalier
my question is should i change the timming chain and water pump its got 87000km and the motor looks bran new what u guys think...
oh by the way its outta a 2001 cavalier are those good years
well what year is your car? if its a pre-2000 it wont work. and i wouldnt really worry about the timing chain and water pump till closer to 100,000 miles. not sure what that is kilometers.

a 2001 2.4 wont work in a pre 2000 j body? where inn the hell are you getting your info from?

change the water pump atleast. the waterpump issue was "fixed" after 1999. but it wouldnt hurt

its a 99 sunfire and i got a 2001 cav 2.4 what u mean it wont work everythingggggggg looks the same on both motors
Everything was the same throughout all TwinCams except the removal of the EGR in late 99
I would do the water pump for sure while its out. Get a AC Delco one
so then my 99 sunfire will work with the 2001 cav motor and the watter pump looks bran newwwwwww

its a direct swap. i think the knock sensor is different between the 99 and 2000 year 2.4 but its an easy fix

^^Your right, the first half of 99 had the bigger knock, the second have of 99 and up has the smaller knock sensor hole..
OP, yes this motor will fit in your 01.. Like said, at least change the water pump.. While your at hit, might as well do the whole timing set.. Wouldnt hurt..

I'd just change those items now if you have the funds. Less work in the future.
but one main question is is my knock sensor the same from a 99 sunfore to a 2001 cav 2.4
