LD9 Header
Tuesday, May 06, 2008 12:47 PM
So I just supercharged my 2.4 with the GM m45 s/c and then I started getting an axhaust leak sound...I got it looked at and the only thing they think it could be is either the flex joint on the down pipe or possibly if its not that there may be a crack in the stock exhaust manifold...so I was talking a guy at exhaust shop who I have taken my car to a few times (and has a 800hp, 9 sec mustang) and he was thinking that if I could get a header that came with the downpipe that connected right to the cat that would be my best bet....I was looking at the DC Sports header but am not sure if that includes the downpipe or just the header...am also wondering about the RK Sport header (but I have read some not so great things about that header) and am wondering if that header includes the downpipe and flex joint...I am looking for any decent header for a boosted 2.4L that has the down pipe with it...if anyone could help me out that would be awsome.

This is what I have. You will have to get it welded to the cat but that is really no biggie to have an exhaust shop do.

so Wade, does it come with the down pipe?....seems like your saying it does if you have to get it welded to the cat...is there a flex joint in the header or is it just pipe straight through to the cat?

you dont NEED the downpipe to be part of the header... all you need are solid engine mounts, a header, and a custom made downpipe that bolts to the header collector and is welded to the cat. but while your under there you might as well install a high flow cat and larger, mandrel bent tubing all the way back, muffler is your choice, rice sounding or nice sounding, you decide.

i have the pacesetter, with the m45, it comes with the downpipe...i love it. DC sports is nice is you can find an american made one...

remember there's 4-1 which my pacesetter is and 4-2-1 which i'm pretty sure dc's is.

If you do not have poly engine mounts buy them.

wondering of the guys running the pacesetter header for the LD9 how much louder is it over the stock header...I have a high flow cat and 2.5" cat-back....wondering if I should pick up a resonator...I have a silencer with the exhaust so I could use that for a while if its a lot louder...let me know what you guys think

in regards to the engine mounts...are u able to use a flex joint in the down pipe of the pacesetter header instead of mounts...I have been reading on here that you should do one or the other to prevent cracking of the header or flanges...

You could use a flex joint but it would more than likely be best to put it between the downpipe and cat. You should get engine mounts for other reasons not just to help with your exhaust.

I do not know if yours is going to be louder or not since I still have a stock exhaust minus the Pacesetter 4-1 armour coated header and a magnaflow tip.

I know I took a pic of the header in the box. I will see if I can find it. It might help answer your questions. It will not bolt onto your stock exhaust it will need to be welded on.

you will want a resonator , no matter what header you use , the 2.4 wakes up with a full exhaust and being s/c'd itll be louder than a n/a car

i used pacesetters header as it came , nothing added to it , i did have a upper insert , and lower dog bone , but either way you want them , and trans mount(s)

our motors move around alot , and having the mounts will keep the motor from moving excessively , and get the power to the ground better and quicker , making the car alittle faster and better handling

but expect the car to make more little noises and vibrate some

yeah...I think I am going to invest in some mounts sometime soon...I'll try and get some from rksports or turbo tech racing...want to get a smaller pulley for the s/c and springs/struts too, so I may order it all together...wondering if anyone found a difference in power with this header...I know the stock header is fairly restrictive even stock n/a and with my s/c it would be even worse...I know DC sports claims 9-12 hp and thats a 4-2-1 and the pacesetter is 4-1...any ideas of what people think they are getting or any dyno results...I'm wondering if 10-15 bhp is a good estimate for a gain with the s/c with intake and exhaust...Wade if you could find the pic of it for me that would be awsome.
