I just installed my cheap ebay intake yesterday and as expected it came with a crap filter. my cavys 2000 w/ a 2.2 engine, any ideas on what size/part number a K & N filter would be (for the intake, not stock)? Thanks! and yes i know im newb =)
why is it a crap air filter? I use a piece of screen and panyhose off my turbo! is that a crap air filter?
Just measure the outer diameter of the intake pipe, and then measure your clearance where the filter will go and just get whatever fits. Or measure the one that came with it and order a K&N thats the closest to it.
The one that came with it should work just fine though. You would get by using one of those Autozone cone style air filters they sell on the shelf. It's just a filter.
My old eBay filter fell apart into a ton of pieces (after I switched to a quality one), so I wouldn't keep the eBay one on for long... lol

That's worse than crap, that's just begging to suck junk into your turbine housing.
Why in gods name would you be so dumb as to not spend another $30 for a decent filter?
And before you say anything about power gains versus a filter... take a look around, everywhere. If its a drag strip only car, then I can see not using a filter, but I highly highly doubt your car is drag strip only. I'm not surprised though, aren't you still driving that thing boosted without a tune? Whatever engine damage results from both retardations you totally deserve.

thanks a lot for the info guys =)
the ebay filter is SO crap....it has like...mesh used in windows to keep bugs out and like blue recycled cloth...not my kind of filter
oh btw Rich Grayo Jr. the part number you specified doesnt exist =S
the screens on those crap filters rust, plus they arent reusable lke a K&N. its a one time use filter. so you have to buy filter after filter
its not just beacause they arent name brand.
my ebay intake's filter works perfectly fine.
i have the bomz intake with just the blue filter that came with it. i have used my KnN cleaning kit on it several times now and its been holding up perfectly well. i havent been able to compare the flow yet to see if a KnN is actually better or not, but would make for an interesting test... might have to see if i can coerce shane into doing some data logging with me and get a couple friends to donate their filters to the cause for 10 minutes. would be interesting to see if once clean if the filters were any different in what they flowed.

I don't think people replace the filter for any extra power or anything of the like. I think they rather have the peice of mind of having a filter that is known to actually work, like AEM, K&N, and so forth.
K&N lots of time and money making sure their fitlers are just fine for everyday use. The ones off eBay are just very cheap filters. I know you never hear of people blowing their motors from use of a poor filter, but I think alot of people rather have that peice of mind.
I know I do.
