Header: 4-1 or 4-2-1??

my current header cracked at the collector (RK 4-1). Im getting a new one but i want to know the advantages/disadvantages of the 4-2-1.

A 4-2-1 header will retain/give you alittle better mid/low end power.

Well I thinks its personal preference.. I went with a 4-1 OBX header because a 4-2-1 does all these crazy bends and i wanted to wrap my header in time for summer so my car dosent over heat.. but i live in Phoenix and its crazy hot already and i'm already getting pretty warm under the hood.

i wrapped my 4-1 also. but i think for the new one (no matter which one) im just gonna do a blanket instead of wrap. its hot here too in florida, it takes forever for the underhood temps to fall after shutdown

Do any of you have problems with warping when you wrap them?

As far as 4-1 VS 4-2-1 .... I went with a 4-1 just because it was easier.... and it matches the power band that I want.

no warping that i know of. i went with the 4-1 because that was the only option at the time.

The header wrap could have helped cause the crack. Just an fyi.

ive heard it puts more stress on the header since its holding in all the heat. thats why im getting a blanket instead. provide a barrier without suffocating the header

Ill keep that in mind... would you happen to have a link said blanket?

A good ceramic coat would just be best.

that would be fine if the heater hoses werent 3" away from the header. i just need a "heat shield"

Wrap header wrap or some kind of heat tape around your hoses, or tie them up away somehow. Ive had 3 different style headers on my 2.4 and never had any issues with anything hitting the header.

icemike89(not turbo) is right... You definitely don't want to put a wrap on mild steel headers as it just makes the tubing get eaten-up faster. Not to mention how it will wick moisture to the tubes & make it rust faster. Best just to get them with ceramic coating from the factory from the get-go, or just has an after-market coater put it on for you if you already have the header.

As for the advantage 4-1 over Tri-Y (4-2-1): The Tri-Y design helps produce a broader torque curve, with will help with drive-ability if you have an automatic or numerically low final drive gears. Or a heavy load to move.

Go beyond the "bolt-on".

they also have a wrap for your intake which i want to get also. I plan on doing some data logging when i get the intake wrap to see how much it helps the IAT's.

Nickel dimer: Thats what i wanted to hear about the 4-2-1. thanks.

I just found out from TTR that the DC header is on backorder and i cant get it until July

My hoses have some sort of heat blanket on them stock.... is that not normal?

yes thats normal. when i replaced the motor and put on new hoses, that blanket around them basically fell apart.
