Ok i did a quick search and didn't really find anything.
Just wondering would a 2200(98+) head will fit on a 2.2L(95-97) without mods?
If mods are required...what would they be?
Thanks.
Everything that bolts to the head above the block mating surface will need to be changed to what came on the 2200. And the 2200 pushrods will be needed too. As for the cam (Although you didn't mention it) the '98-up cam is designed to work with the redesigned head to provide better mid-range. Using the 2.2L cam with the long runners of the 2200 intake manifold may result in increased low-end torque, but then the higher RPM breathing may become restricted limiting the operating range of the engine. Not to mention that the exhaust port on the 2200 head is actually quite different from the 2.2L head, and the results that may occur during cam overlap with the 2.2L cam (Again, you didn't say if that's what you're using so I can only guess) may not result in proper cylinder fill assistance during exhaust scavenging (That's what overlap does). Or allow the exhaust to be properly scavenged either with the factory exhaust manifold. It's at this point you will need a header, perferably one with long tubes or a Tri-Y (4-2-1) to get the exhaust gases outta the cylinder properly. But again, the long tube style (Which most often come with primaries of a relatively small size) will be limited in effective range to the low-end of the RPM band, and henceforth limit the engine's effective RPM operating range. This where I'd prefer to use the Tri-Y header as it helps produce torque over a larger (broader) operating range, unless I'm trying to make a low revving stump-puller like you seem to be. Then I'd go with the traditional 4-1 long tube design.
Go beyond the "bolt-on".
wow...thanks for the very detailed answer man.
I think i'll skip it. Someone was selling a built 2200 head, thought i might have been a easy swap but guess not..
Thanks again man.
