Im using the arp head studs with an MLS cometis head gasket (.070) and Im wondering if the torque and re torque change?
What should they be?
Also how long before the re torque?
I did this all according to my haynes manual, and re torque after 5 heating cycles and blew my previous gasket!
JUST NEED SOME HELP!
cometic gasket + ARP studs....are you using ARP's moly lube as thread lubricant on the head bolts?? If so 60 ft. #....if not 80 I believe.
It is a thread lube. The specifically design it to work on their bolts/studs. It is very similar to assembly lube, but not interchangeable.
Most Cometic gaskets fail due to improper surface prep (to rough, need at most 50 RA).
fortune cookie say: better a delay than a disaster
You mean 52 RA.
If you got the proper machining done to the block and head, and told the machine shop what gasket you were using, it should be a non-issue. But I was actually unaware that this was the leading cause of failure.
Uh, I take it if I used the "Classic" Fel-Pro Blue head gasket on my "Just-get-it-running" 2200 job such extensive prep isn't necessary.
Go beyond the "bolt-on".
no.....you should be fine.
I dont think a lot of people understand the finish specs on here anyways.....which is why i said tell the machine shop.
But a regular gasket does not require that fine of a surface texture.
