What first?

I could make about 3 different posts in about 3 different forums, but I figure that I could lump it all in one post as a general performance post.

I have two routes I can currently take, and as such I'm torn, and would like to take a pseudo-vote. The JBO has yet to steer me wrong

1: Turbo kit, I figure I can find one for about $2000 used, and go from there. I've been dying to feel boost, and you can't go wrong with a sexy BOV. I'm going to run on a stock bottom end for a while at low boost (hoping to push like 200-220 whp), and after a while when I feel the itch, build the bottom and go higher.

2: Suspension, Rims, Brakes: I want to go with Koni Yellows and Eibach Sportlines as far as the suspension setup goes. I'm actually pretty happy with my rims, but I DO want bigger brakes, and from what I hear 17" rims are pretty much the minimum I can go unless I want to get complicated. I figured I'd get some decent looking $400 rims to satisfy the size requirement, and then get the brakes.

I know the smart person would probably go with suspension/brakes first, but I really want to get this thing boosted. As I said, I'm torn.

With my current cash flow I can afford one and wait a little while for another (probably about a year).

Opinions?

a used kit for $2000? I don't really see too many turbo kits for sale that are legit.

go for the suspension first. don't bother with the brakes until later. do the springs/shocks (maybe coilovers?), front and rear sway bars, and the a-arm bushings and you'll be amazed at how much better the car will feel.

then I'd do your engine mounts and transmission mounts

then its time for turbo

I would go with the suspension/brakes. The suspension is going to take up most of the money in that side of it, but you can still do some of the brakes. Steel braided lines are a cheap and easy way to get more braking power out of our car. On the flip side, you could get a hugely expensive brake kit, and then just get a couple suspension goodies like strut bars/bushings/etc. (low cost but effective).

But really, this all depends on what you use the car's power for. If you're drag racing, then the turbo would be the obvious choice, since you don't really need to worry as much about suspension since all you're doing is driving straight. But if you're more into autocross, then the suspension will cut your times down just as effectively. As far as a used turbo kit, has Darkstars managed to sell his yet?

Definately go suspension first. You can piece it together a part at a time and get a decent improvement from each part as you put it on to satisfy your need for improvement while you slowly save up for the turbo in the background. In the end you will have a better car since your suspension will be top notch and you will have had lots of time to read and save and properly put together a turbo kit. If you go and spend even $2000 on a used turbo kit, expect to possibly have to shell out to rebuild the turbo and/or buy some tuning solution like hpt aswell.

For the suspension i totally agree with PJ but would also add the front and rear STB's (they're cheap and they help a bit too). And definately all mounts and control arm bushings.

That's what I figured you'd all say, and I'm not going to argue, the JBO knows best

Also, I was referencing some used turbo kits sold by members here. I've seen them for around $2,000. I'll probably just end up going with a Hahn kit though.

I'll go with the Konis and Sportlines first, and take it one step at a time.

Thanks guys.

I would say boost it first normally. However a turbo setup will always cost you beyond what you planned. With suspension parts the cost is pretty straight forward and a one time investment of huge amounts.
