Valvetrain upgrades.....
Tuesday, August 12, 2008 10:46 AM
What exactly should i upgrade in my valvetrain to be able to rev to 7k? Obviously i need camshafts that put the powerband up there but do i need to upgrade the valvesprings and to what ones? I dont wanna go any higher than that and im turbocharging my car this winter and ditching the supercharger and i wanted a higher powerband. I have access to hp tuners so changing the spark rampout and limiter is not a problem. Thanks...

Springs by ferrea should do the trick.

If you get the comp cams and the Ferrea valve train PM us we will get you the hookup.

I have heard of people running up to 7,000 RPM with stock 2.4l springs and no problems I think it might have been skillz?

I know i have been running 2.3 HO springs for the past two year with no problems they are a lil stiffer spring. + the HO springs are about $60 at napa. but you also need the retainers they where right around $40 when i last bought them.

I would think to stock springs are fine up to 7 if that's all your going for I haven't really heard of any valve float on a quad.

7,000 rpm should be fine with stock springs. 7,600 rpm on stock springs is not recommended, take my word on this one....

Yep, what he said. I have been shifting @ 7k on occasion on the street and more often at the track. At least for my dyno @ 6psi on stock cams, my peak power was 5600 rpm's so I am going to lower mine until I change the cams
