header install question
Friday, August 15, 2008 7:42 AM
I recently picked up an obx header for my eco. I wanted to see how much it'd be to throw on for now even though i have stock exhaust. So what I was thinking was I need a flange welded to a small section of intermediate pipe with a 2 1/4" - 1 7/8" reducer in there and that welded to my stock cat. This sounds like very little piping or work so just for interest I called an exhaust shop and was quoted $120 with me installing the header... this can't be right so what should i expect to pay for this minor job?

I know the gains will be better with the rest of the exhaust done, but i was curious about this.

Well, I'll tell you this, I'm installing a pacesetter header and the shop is going to fab a downpipe to my 2.5"cat and cat back, install on O2 bung on the dp, install a resonator and basically rehang the whole exhaust for about that price.

I would shop around before you commit.

oh i know i'm not touching that place. the guy was a jerk on the phone too. i just want to know what range i should be looking at. that doesn't include the catback too does it?
so you are installing the header and bringing them the resonator and cat and that's all? your pacesetter doesn't have an O2 bung? Mine has one in the collector and one in the pipe after the flex pipe... i thought we had 1 02 before the cat and one after... i have to start reading header posts now haha

The header has a bung, but i want one for a WB O2 sensor. I have the cat and cat back installed - its just not hanging how I want it. If you have two before the cat, you're set for a WB...

Took a look under the car today and i think the intermediate pipe after the flex pipe on my header is designed for an exhaust with no cat because it looks like its too long to line up with the inlet of the cat. sooo does this mean i get to have someone cut the stainless steel and weld it to a high flow cat and then weld a flange on the outlet of the cat???

ie....

Engine>head flange>primaries>collector>flex pipe>cut intermediate pipe>high flow cat (2.25 in/out)>exhaust flange>catback

do i have the right idea here? This makes the header, intermediate pipe and cat all one piece :S

I spent $270 for them to cut out my resonator and put new piping, along with take off the muffler and run new piping all the way to the rear with a chrome tip. But I was put in front of 2 cars cuz I was in a hurry. I live in fayetteville nc, and meinike is expensive.

98z24, lowered 2", aem intake, cat-back striaght pipes!, cop ligths in the front and rear, 18" liquid metal's, primer black, tint, full audio and video.
