Ive seen the writeups on how to do a heated o2 sensor, but there anyway to do it without using a rear 02? Im using an o2 sim so I dont have a rear o2 sensor, is there anyway to make one with the sim or even if the rear is deleted with hpt?
What is your ? Do you want to do a heated o2 sensor in place of the stock manifold sensor or do you want to add the rear o2 sensor.
If youve seen the writeup for doing a bank 1 heated/o2 sensor you have to splice into the rear o2. I dont have a rear o2 as Im using a simulator, Im asking is there any way to do a heated o2 without a rear sensor to splice into.
yes there is give me a few to find the info to make sure i tell you the right way.
also don't mean to double post agian but the only reason you wire into the rear is for power and a ground. If you still have those wires which you should have even using a o2 sim you should still be able to run the hot and ground to it then the other goes to the o2 sensor wire for the factory o2.
Which car are you wanting to do this too? if it is a 2000 and up J you will have a 2 wire sensor. One is for the pcm the other is a ground. So all you would have to do is run the switched wire to your fuse box to a switched fuse or to the rear o2. I think 99 also has a 2 wire but not to sure.
Cool thanks for the info and wiretup man. Im trying not to sound stupid but Im having a hard time grasping this..plus I havnt slept in 30 some hours so that doesnt help. So you use the 4 wire o2, 2 of which just go to the front sensor and the other 2 are pretty much a power and ground? This is for an 01 as well so yea its a 2 wire o2.
You only use 3 wires on the 4 wire o2 sensor. One is the pcm signal which i believe on the two wire goes to the purple wire on your stock o2 sensor. Then the other wire on your stock o2 would be the ground. All you have to do then is run a switched 12volt and you would be done.
I will double check on the o2 sensor though.
This is how I did mine.
I went to the junkyard and picked up several 4 wire heated O2 sensors that were from recent junked cars. Most overlook this and the car has been running flawlessly with the used O2 sensor.
I also used a 4 prong quick connect so that if I have to replace the O2 sensor, I can reuse or just buy another half of the plug to reinstall the new one without rewiring the entire setup.
I've got the switched power hooked up under dash on the custom terminal block dedicated to anything for turn on, relay controlled with indicator light.
I've got both ground wires hooked up under the dash also on a dedicated terminal block for grounding anything I need or add in the future.
The original purple wire was tied into the 4 prong plug on the wire that is seperate from the shielded cabling I used for everything else.
Again, it's worked flawlessly so far and to me way better than having to connect to the rear O2 sensors power to make the heated O2 sensor work.

Thank you Dave and JBO!

um how did you get two grounds for the o2 sensor? There should be one ground, switched 12 volt, High res signal for the pcm, the a low res signal that you wouldn't use.
On the 4 wire, heated O2 sensor, you've got the heater of the sensor which requires a switched 12 volt source, and a ground to make that heater work. That's two of the 4 wires used so far. If you look at the electrical schematic of the heated O2 sensor, you'd see that it's has its own seperate circuit.
The other two wires use one for the ECM for the signal and 4th wire for ground again.
I just wired up both grounds together and have them in the same grounding block I have under the dash.
Electrically, the car doesn't see this setup like I have, but it's identical to what the factory intended based on the electrical end of it.
Hope that explains it.

Well it must be a different sensor than a bosch one that is universal because the f-body owners only use 3 of the wires and 1 ground. Also my uncle runs the bosch one in his grand national and has it wired up for only one ground. Unless the other wire (in which you said was a ground) isn't needed but can be wired up.
Yup, these were Denso O2 sensors and I never use Bosch in the car. I've had nothing but issues with the Bosch O2 sensor.
The ones from the junkyard were also from Imports as I know they're usually a good quality from their factories.
Either way, I wound up with a 4 wire hookup.
