OK, so I just installed an oil pressure and a volt meter gauge. They both semi-work. When I turn my car on neither of the gauges work...nothing happens. Well both of the gauges have a 12V switched source that I wired to an existing switch I had put into my car for neons. When I turn the switch on the gauges both light up just fine but still nothing on the volt meter and the oil pressure gauge goes to about 10psi and then nothing...just stays there.
They also require a wire that runs to a constant 12V source and I guess this is where I am confused with the two. Could it be that this wire doesn't have a good connection. Also, how would I run both 12V sources (constant and switched) to the fuse box. Any help would be great.
Thanks
If you're going to be running alot of gauges, you need a terminal block that is dedicated to providing power, switched power, and a ground.
Running all of your gauges and other things to your fuse box can tax whatever it is you're attaching the gauges to.
Make sure that you have your oil pressure gauge hooked up correctly and that you have them all properly grounded.
Also, on my gauges, I just harwired the gauge lights with the to the swithced source so that they come on whenever I turn the car on to go.
Sometimes doing it right requires a bit more effort and electrical accessories (terminal blocks) to do the job right and to give you another avenue of hooking up your gauges.
I mounted my terminal blocks directly below the steering column, under the cover so that they wouldn't be seen. So now when I add another gauge or two or anything else, I'll have the provisions to do so without affecting the fuse box.
The volt gauge should be pretty straight forward on the hookup. One wire to a 12volt switched source for the actual gauge to work, another for the gauge light which can be hooked up with the gauge wire, and the all important ground.
The oil pressure gauge should entail a wire to the sending unit from the gauge, a wire to a switched source, and the other wire for the gauge light which again should be wired to the swithced source.
Hope this helps.
Good luck.
