Hello every one. I have a 2000 sun fire. I love the little Piece! Any way I recently lowered it using skunk 2 springs and koni struts. I added polyurethane bushings in the front as well. I had the car aligned 2x's and still have a strange issue. When under throttle the car will veer left or right slightly but with haste. It does this as well as when I let off the gas and apply slight pressure either left or right at say 40+mph, slower speeds like take off I know it's just the little bit of torque my big2.2 makes! I checked and replace the front hub bearings, that turned out to be much easier than anticipated. I did notice that the front control arm mounts tended to have some play in them, even with the fresh urethane bushings. I was wondering if maybe I should go back to the stock rubber or stick with the urethane? Also if I swap out the bushings and the problem still exists, could it be the rack & pinion? I grabbed the wheel with the front end in the air and it seemed quit solid on the steering side of things. One last thing and this may have contributed to my issue, but the rear, or main front control arm bushing when installing the urethane one, do you cut that thin metal ring out or leave it in. the flare in the urethane bushing is way too big to just press into the control arm, I ended up tearing the flare on it and then stopped. So my car has the urethane front bushings in and the rubber main ones in. Has any one had these problems and if so whats the remedy. I like this little car and don't want to get rid of it because of my own ignorance, when I can fix the issues I'm having my self.
you have to remove that ring for the larger bushing. Then you can fit the polyurethane bushing in, you'll probably need to press out the metal ring, or tap it out with a hammer. Also, put some oil, or lubricant on the new bushing as you are trying to put it in. It will make it easier. That HAS to be pressed, i think, when I did mine.
This was over 4 years ago, so forgive me if the details are hazy.
^Like he said. Take the ring out and try again with a fresh pair of urethane bushings...throw a few drops of motor oil on the flare of the bushings and you'll find they go in really easy. Also, the yawn to the left and right with throttle is loose control arm bolts.
