probably one of the best replies to a post like this, i definitely lol'd!
looking to only spend about 500 to 1000
lol
that wont get you much power

Im a Xbox 360 fanboy...and damn proud of it!!
someone should do a write up similar to the ecotec one. seems like we get 2 or 3 of these posts a week.
and not to sound mean, but if you have to ask how to get more power from an engine, your prolly not skilled enough to perform the mods it takes to get the power you want.

Get all the parts you need in a pile, and drive the car into it.
They will find their way into the correct places.
500 to 1000? get an intake exhaust and header, be happy with the 10 hp, if you are good around engines pull your head off and port it or have it ported that will net you the most bang for the buck, i have dropped over $7000 on a 2.2 and still only have 200 hp n/a
what you think about swapping it out for a 2.2 ecotec my friend has them just laying around and i can get a stand alone computer fro it for about 500. and i hoping just get a ecotec sub frame from a 03 or newer cavy/sunfire
thats what i was going to suggest... youre lucky, you have a 2000... swap in the eco!! i believe there are more options with the eco than the 2.2...
however, LONG LIVE THE 2200!!!!
I know what you shouldn't do. Don't buy and AEM cold air intake cheaper is fine don't get the stupdi chip off of ebay spend the money on learning spend your money on learning the engine there were just two recent posts that have given put together some of the best info for our engines.
The proper way of using the word seen. It is not I seen it that would be I saw it. He has seen the car is the right way to use the word. English class is Cool. By the way thats my sig

Get a nitrous kit, hook it up, spray it until it blows, get a better engine for a swap.
I spent 300-400 on intake header and exhaust...im pleased with the power im getting...it isnt much but it makes a difference...plus nobody expects u to launch on them in 2000 sunfire...but for real power turbo it...i dont think u hav to change the stock internals as long as u dont peak ur boost
Honestly the best thing you can do for now is get a Cold Air Intake that comes directly off the throttlebody, not the black box that says 2200. This won't do much for hp but will really improve your throttle response. The stock intake is like breathing in through a crazy straw. After that a good exhaust, port and polish the head, get the cam reground, and HPtuners to tune it. I would also suggest poly mounts to reduce engine movement and get back some of the power lost from the engine rocking back and forth. Other than that it's nitrous or boost. Good luck.
P.S. also please sign the ohv petition.

And check-out the thread titled: Build a better LN2. It's dedicated to the build-up of your engine (Both generations) and can give you some ideas as to what to try & do.
Go beyond the "bolt-on".
there are some points to what is being said. but really theyre mostly being stupid a$$'s. for a grand you can get a budget intake/header/exhaust and youll notice a good difference. you should be satisified atleast for awhile with I/H/E. yoully get about 18 flywheel HP. thats over 10% increase in factory hp. 10% is a lot more pull over stock. get a Cold air intake. thatll be you best bang for the buck. a cold air intake on any car makes a noticable differernce a lone. then a header is next. i havnt swapped mine out but i can tell jsut by looking at that big chunk of cast iron manifold that is restrictive. and the down pipe should be on a 1.6L civic. its way too skinny. so bascially look up a cheap cold air intake on ebay and throw a good K&N filter on it. and OBX header first. theyre not expenive and theyre good headers. those 2 things u should start on. then see if u can get an exhuast. deleting the air box before the thorttle body if u can would help a lot too. i know u dont know mcuh but if u can fab some intake together to get rid of it that would be a good cheap mod.
it seems like ur a rookie. u should search for you answers b4 u ask. it wastes members. and the a$$ members'll just diss you.

Tell me about it. And yes, a good cold-air intake (One that's fed from the head-wind while the car is rollin' down the road, via a port in the core-support of front facsia & through some tubing) is a sure way to male power, as colder air = more power, and the more air you make available for the engine to breathe the better.
Go beyond the "bolt-on".
Ya, the stock intake is like breathing in through a crazy straw. When I installed my CAI it made a big difference. Now when hit the gas the it goes. The engine doesn't have to catch its breath anymore.
