need help with ecotec swap moving evap...
Wednesday, October 01, 2008 9:23 AM
im doing a swap with a 04 2.2 ecotec manual into a 97 manual 2200 cavalier. i have the evap box from the eco and i was wondering about that plastic plug that comes out of it connected by a rubber hose. im not sure where this plugs into on the 97. it doesnt look electrical. there is an oval plug and a round cylinder piece on it. it has a gasket around it so it goes in somewhere..otherwise is there a way to route the old one to bypass or something? i couldnt understand the how-to on this part..thanks for your help!! also that plug that comes from under the back seat that connects to wiring harness. i saw that one wire comes from the right rear wheel prob for abs, does the other plug go to the other wheel? i didnt see that wire...

I know the 2 plastic hard lines in this picture go into it...

But that big rubber guy goes into a black pastic Evap sensor thing. I don't know what its called, but you can see it in these pics... It does eventually connection into a sensor for the evap system.

Thats all i got of it. I'm doing the eco swap to my 99 right now and I know your pain on swapping everything over. I just benefit by having one of the 99 with the evap already out back and I don't have to move it around at all. Feel free to PM me if you got anymore questions bud.

The big plug on the actual body where all the connections are made are for the following...

Fuel pump is one like you have.

The other plug is for the ABS and the EVAP, the harness you see running along the trailing arm is for the ABS.

I am at college right now, and I can't get a better look at the parts either. I know I have a spare plastic EVAP thing which the big hose connects into and wiring harness for the SOB too. But I am 2+ hrs away from home, so I can't even trek there to take a look. My GM service manuals are sitting inside my car which is getting the motor swap too for all the dash wiring I was doing before returning to school.

Ok couple questions for you (since I have doen the swap yopu are doing a few times now). Do you have a donor car? Sounds like you are trying to piece things together between 04 and 97. Not saying it can't be done, but makes for a much harder swap. If you have a donor car just swap everything opver and be done.

ok i went to the junk yard and took a look. i figured out where the second plugin came from. i was missing a 6inch wire that goes from the evap box into that plugin that comes in under the back seat. the other part of my question, where does that plastic piece plug into- that plugs right into the car itself. my 97 doesnt have those holes (the bigger round one and the oval one). so i guess i will have to drill them both out. anyone else have to do this to move their evap to the back from where it was previously under the passenger fender?

there is the wire i was missing i picked up. and see the round cylinder thing sticking out and the oval shaped plastic plug, that is what attaches to the car. here is a close up pic of that-

here are the holes from an 03 at the junk yard- i guess i will have to drill them into my 97. anyone have to do this?

nope, but make a template out of paper. Make slightly smaller than the original holes so you can slowly remove material to get a snug fit. Like we discussed earlier, my 99 came with it all back there. Hope you also realize you need the hard line coming from the front of the engine to the rear of the car now too.

yep i think i got that line, it runs with the gas lines right? i have 3 lines going to the back and it looked like the one had a short plastic hose with disconnects going from the gtank to the evap. yeah i had a donor car that i pulled everything off of but i couldnt get the throttle cable off and i forgot the clutch line so i have those being shipped in now hopefully by the weekend they get here...
