PCV oil drain

Any reason why I cant weld that SOB up if I have made other recovery provisions utilizing the vent from the timing case?

as long as it is vented in some way yes you can weld it closed, you need the engine to be vented though

^Yeah 10-4, I'm venting through the chain housing to the atmopshere through a catch tank.

not farmilair with your motor but make sure the timing case is actually vented to the rest of the crankcase

I am not possitive on how the pcv works, but I was told by my mech, that if the pcv does not have a vacum on it, there will be problems. But I am Definitly gonna war h this thread for expriance with this. I myself would love to loose the pcv

I'm actually not loosing anything as far as PCV...I need to verify the chain case has a large enough opening to the pan but IIRC it has a massive opening at the bottom.
on a 2.4L the PCV vents from the chain case to the side of the block to allow the oil in the flow to drain back into the pan then separated air back into the intake. Upon verification of the passage between the chain case and the pan I will weld up the block separator and just have the chain case vent go to a catch can and drain into another bung welded into the pan. -Just like a turbo drain

Also, the whole PCV on a vacuum is complete BS, yes it is optimal to run a vacuum but you don't need to and besides its only really on a good vacuum during idle anyway.

OOOO....almost forgot and remembered right before I posted...itsn't there a wierd metal check valve deal on the bottom of the oil drain inside the bottom end of the motor on a 2.4 anyway? -meaning that the only source for the PCV to vent is through the chain case?

Look at an Eco.... It goes from the valve cover to the intake... No vacum

on the ln2 it goes from valve covor to the plenum and there IS vaccum

thats all find and dandy, most cars have vacum to the PCV system but the point is PCV doesn't NEED vaccum

The hose that goes from the intake to valve cover is the fresh air intake for the pcv system. There is no pcv valve, but an orafice in the cylinder head that has vacuum.

That's right. All I have had for the past 150, 000 km is a breather filter on the end of a short Positive Crankcase Ventilation hose. I don't burn oil, I lose a bit under hard acceleration. 1qt every 5000 km. (If i drove hard on the car a lot). The only thing is it's pretty dirty under my hood. I guess that's exhaust coming out of that hose.
