Hi all. . .
I understand that my car has the LD9 and would like to swap the engine for a refurbished engine sometime in the near future. I"m sure this question has been asked and I apologize for being redundant but the search function yielded no results that answered my question. I would like to know if it is possible/practical to swap an ecotec into my 96 Z24. Is there any fabrication that needs to be done or transmission swaps required to do so?
The other route, obviously, is to swap in another LD9. If it is possible to do the eco swap, what are the pros and cons involved with both?
Any help would be appreciated. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

yep, certainly possible to swap over to an eco. hit up the search button for all your wildest dreams in terms of knowledge for the swap.
i feel as though its a waste though... LD9 FTW.
yea i would def stick with the ld9 for sure a lil more expensive to maintain but well worth it!!!!

pfft LD9s are over rated eco for sure or if you wanna get crafty do a 3400, 3800 are a little more work but if you search for an engine in the search section you will get a bunch of info
3400 and ecos theres a bunch of INFO out there 3800 well every car so far has been done different for mounts and such
an eco is definatly the way to go if you have a good 2.4 engine and if you have a 5spd trans you "COULD" sell those 2 items and "POSSIBLY" pay for your eco swap but i would get a donor car so you have the pieces

My only question with this is it was made for 2000 and up. I have a 96. Is this a problem?

It's a lot harder, you have to swap over just about an entire car

im into the whole bigger engine swap thing thats what i do for a living but in your case if you dont have fabricating skills or tools i would stick with what you have you need alll the wiring and ecm from an eco motor and an ld9 isnt a bad motor either
Thanks for all the feedback this is pretty sweet!!! So far I've gotten that the eco would be a better motor but is it really worth the swap?!?! For my first experiment I think I will stick with the LD9 and if I don;t like it for some reason I can always do something different. In my opinion, the experience gained will be priceless no matter what the outcome. I will keep you updated!!! Check out my post in the show& shine interior forum that is what I did over the weekend.
