never seen a how to on this what do i do just remove the abs sensors and the abs ecu to the master cylinder? just looking to clean up the engine bay a little bit
thanks
jason
no, you need the wheel speed sensors.
You need a non-abs computer (preferably, but not necessary....your ABS light will be on it you dont do this)
A non-ABS master cyl, and new/re-routed lines directly to the master.
couldn't you just pull the abs fuse? or are you removing the abs for room under the hood?

BTW: This is my Sig.
sounds like he wants to unclutter under the hood, so removing the unit.
John is right, you will get your ABS light on.

well i have no cluster so i am not worried about that , why do i need the seepd sensors? so i have to get a non abs master cylinder? and eliminate the wiring?
thanks
jason
what john means is you can't remove the ABS sensors because they drive the speedometer.
all you need to do is remove the ABS motor (the big ass thing with 4 hardlines coming out of it) and get a non-abs unit.
however you'll still have all the wiring and an ABS light unless you change the ecu, and either cut out the wiring or get another non-abs harness.
PJ followed me exactly.
Thats what I was trying to say.
I thought the speedo got its signal from the timing ring on the differential...not the wheel speed sensors.

well i dont have a cluster again so what would i need the sensors for?????
VSS controls the speedometer through the PCM, not the ABS wheel sensors.

Thank you Dave and JBO!

Does there exist a non-abs computer for the 00+ LD9? I was just gonna disconnect my warning light but sounds like there might exist some other options eh?
<table>hello</table>
yes, ABS delete was an option.....as was DRL delete, etc.

X2
wheel speed sensors will not affect the speedo
Im doin this swap as we speak.. Gary has a thread with exactly what you will need.
ECO Jbody with non abs Master cylinder and brake distribution block. Along with the SS lines that are attached. If you have a Pre 00+ J, you will need to re-bend your brake lines going into the Distribution block since the bends are different.

I might look into doing this as well. My ABS hasnt worked in years lol HMMMM
hmm...interesting you mention you need a non-abs MC since my MC at least looks exactly the same as in the pic. Maybe the Pre 00+ cars need the non-abs MC since they have the ABS bleeds and such on their MC and 00+ cars don't? - I might be backwards on that and I don't have my J around me right now to verify. I actually already got the non-abs block when I was touring a junk yard since I thought it would come in handy some day but I'm still out to lunch on the computer...maybe I can find a non-abs computer on car-part.com
<table>hello</table>
Josh, yea the non abs MC is not physically connected to the distribution block like the pre 00's are. Thats the only reason we need to get the MC as well when we pick up the non abs distrobution block.

If you just want to disable your ABS pull the fuse, then pull the ABS bulb on the back of the speedo head. if you want to totally remove the whole system......... its really not worth it....
David Tanti wrote:....... its really not worth it....
^Subjective statement right there..........it all depends on what your trying to do, that's what decides if its worth it or not.

I have no abs in my fire! but thats cause im special, lol j/k any way in 03' was the first year that abs was an option! I would think you would just need a bcm out of a 03' or newer j with no abs and the pcm does not control the abs at all. and of course you will need the brake distrubtion box and mc from the same car or buy new gm parts! just my 2 cents!

ummm my 97 sunfire has ABS and i believe it was standard (could be wrong), ethier way, option or not mine has it. what i am saying is, it is not likely that '03 was the first year ABS was an option. second, this is for jason, but why are you running a car with no cluster anyway?
