Lookin For Some Tricks
Wednesday, October 15, 2008 8:14 PM
I'm looking for some minor tricks to tweak how my car acts and feels i.e low end torque, hp, faster top speed, and maybe like painting parts, etc...... I pretty much want anything i can do in my spare time to my J so I'm not bored lol. I have a 2.2 with an intake and exhaust nothing major just want something fun.

Anyone have some suggestions?

search the sites for the mounts......

I had 15 bucks for the insert and i think I had 60 in the dog bone, granted this was 2 yrs ago and on a 2.4 not the 2.2 ohv

the insert would still work on his motor mount .. I just took my inserts for my mount on my 2.2 and swapped it over to my z-vert. now the lower dogbones im sure is the same also but im no 100% on that.

you could pick up a spare head for cheap and do some p&p work on it.

agreed you could even do some of the work youself and have fun with it...then take it to a machine shop for them to inspect it and see how you did

all great ideas i plan on the mounts and the shift plus but im not to good with p&p but ill go to the junk yard and try my luck after a lil research. as for boostin it of course ima boost it after a while i plan on doin an eco swap or 2.4 swap if i do either one im goin boosted ima pull a 2.4 out of the yard and my friend has an extra 2.2 eco layin around so once i get the means to move them ima try my hand at engine building also after researching it thoroughly. ima play with all these engines and work on all of them and try to see there max potential just goin with the 2.2 for now till it goes pop then by that time i should have had enough time to get the 2.4 and/or 2.2 eco which will be ready to go in. any other ideas cause i want to have some fun with this car it already beats my friends 05 mustang v6 and my friends trans am v6 but i still crave more power lol.

A '79 4-spd Chevette eats V-6 "pony-cars". And about eliminating the top-speed governor (If that's what you're asking here too)... We see that as being alot like wife-beating: We understand the desire to, but we don't approve of it.

In the end, we're all just chalk lines on the concrete.. drawn only to be washed away.

I couldn't believe it either until I did it myself. Probably would have totally killed the first one I shut-down if I had posi, but that option was never made available on the T-car. It's wild for observers to see a lil' sub-compact gettin' it's engine zapped to the sky and then leave the mark with the engine screamin' while the right-rear just bursts into smoke.

MadJack (One of our local VIPs) runs Auto-X, so he may be able to help.

Autobahn Racecourse. And Road America.

Oh wait, you meant on this forum? He's here, somewhere... He and Slowolej & OHVnotec are the most experienced LN2 builders around here. But MadJack I know does Auto-X, so he'll be the biggest help to you.

I never finished the latest installment on that subject, which points-out how having cooler air reach the filter is good but how it reaches the filter is very critical. This is the main arguement of of a FAI system, seeing how every CAI I've seen pre-made for whatever application always drew it's air from an indirect method of supply delivery (From under or inside the fender, whatever didn't flow through the radiator (But instead: Around & past it) that flowed through whatever opening to the area just before it, etc...). The exact idea is to take air from the area where it's most abundant (Headwind hitting the front-facsia of the car as it rolls down the road) and give it the smoothest, most direct route of delivery to the filter area to not only to supply the engine with cooler air to breathe (To make power), but also to easily supply more than it may ever need, so it doesn't ever find itself at a lack of it.

Oh, and: If one does decide to replace the factory inlet tract with one from the aftermarket, be sure the filter used with it has the same total area to it as the factory's does... if not more. It's better to have too much filter area (Too big of filter) than too little. And if the filter is a foam-style, make sure the area of it is at least 20% larger than a comparable paper or cotton-wire unit would be for the same app as a stock replacement. Reason for this is foam filter media has a higher density than paper or cotton-wire, and it will prove restrictive to airflow, henceforth starving the engine of air if one of the same area as a paper or cotton-wire is used unless the suggestion I just made is followed.

In your spare time, get a job at McDonalds and start saving up for a turbo kit. I'm not kidding either.
