Hey got a question. What do I have to do to my car so that I can weld on it? I am guessing all the electronics need to come out? Or can I leave them in?
Whats up people?
I assume your stick welding or mig welding....
Disconnect the battery and make sure the welder ground is as close as possible to where your welding. Plus the usual make sure you can't start you car on fire stuff, like not near the gas tank or where the slag can fall on combustable material.
BTW I see your from S'toon, I'm in PA and my gf lives in stoon so i'm there alot... if you need help with your car or anything let me know

Stoon??? really??
im sorry, thats a ghey name, I would rather live in intercourse, or blue ball PA than Stoon.
Anyways, what are you welding exactly?
it could be... mooselookmeguntic me
Heh heh coulda been named pittsburgh... that'd bite some balls
well im stick welding and my dad does most of the welding cause i am just a beginner . . . but i am working on a strut bar
i am just doing it because while it is easier to just get a bar off ebay it is much more satisfying to build your own parts. it would be so much easier to weld the bar while its on the car. dad has never welded on a newer car that has electronics and is worried that it would fry them so if all i have to do is disconnect the battery that would be great.
so to confirm: just unhook the battery and keep ground close?
thanks for the responses btw

Stoon is short for Saskatoon... PA is short for Prince Albert... They're local terms

Park across a muffler shop all day and see how many times the battery is disconnected. In other words just keep the ground close. I made my first strut bar also and tacked it in under the hood, and then I pulled it off to finish welding. 6011 or 7018 would be my rod of choice. 6013 is a pos sheet metal rod with minimal penetration, and 6010 is a DC root pass rod.
