2.5 "cat back
Sunday, November 23, 2008 1:05 PM
im gettin a custom 2.5" cat back exhaust put on my car next week. i allready had it measured and estimated for me. i was originally hoping to just have my ractive muffler welded on the end of my original exhuast ,but he suggested a full cat back system. what im getting is a 2.5" cat back minus resonator with the ractive muffler welded on the end with a custom hanger for $$182.63 is that too much . without a resonator will it be to raspy ??i don't wanna draw huge attention to myself form the cops for having a severly loud exhaust, but they are a professional exhuast shop so if i get a fix it ticket i can show the court the reciept or have them write it off . what do yall think?

most judges won't write off a noise violation, they will tell you to go back to stock. without a resonator it will be raspy as hell. get a decent size resonator and it will sound a lot better not to mention be quiter. but just so you know its still going to be loud

$183 is hella cheap there. If your staying N/A then you dont need 2.5". 2.25" is all you'll need. But for that price im willing to bet that is going to be crush bent mild steel.

Yes, it will be raspy w/o a resonator.

it's pre bent tubing idunno if it's crush bent but im guessing it is they ell cherrybomb glass packs there so i might have him throw one on inplace of the stock resonator. well it's a good thing i know a few people that work in garages then so they can write the ticket off and i can go turn it in . the gu ythats doing thw ork also told me that hte stock resonator is restricting the flow of the exhaust and that w/o it it woudl flow better and let the muffler do it's job and sound good but im not liking the sound of a pissed off bumble bee im gonan go look into glass packs. thanx guys tinkles if ur up in the area u can come by and i'l ltake you to the place they do all sorts of exhaust work custom to stock oem replacement.

get the biggest resonator you can get to fit in the mid pipe area right after your cat...otherwise you will have the sound u dont want (pissed off hive of bees) and avoid using a straight thru muffler, chambered mufflers will make it sound 1000x better.

its not the shop thats gotta write off the ticket... if the cop is cool enough to give you a fix-it ticket instead of an outright noise pollution ticket, the local Highway Patrol office or PD will have to inspect the car and the officer who does it will write it off, to which you'll have to show the clerk of court that the ticket was written off, and you'd probably have to pay a $5 filing fee

I got an exhaust ticket from FHP a few months ago.. no fix-it, just strait up ticket.. but I've paid too much for my exhaust to let some piggy f*ck try to give me sh*t, so I just paid the $87 and went about my way.. but exhaust is freakin LOUD; 2.5" piping, Pacesetter header, 24" Dynomax resonator and strait-thru Tenzo R muffler

and yes, for the love of all things holy, get a resonator and dont let ANYONE tell you otherwise. my cat got backed up a few yrs ago, so I took the car to a local shop and told them to hack it off and just put a piece of pipe in its place and I'd be on my way.. $20 job. it sounded so sh*tty that the kid who did the work (one of the guys I know from the street scene) went to the backof the shop and came back with his old Dynomax resonator.. the one I have now.. and gave it to me for free, 'cause he felt that bad for me...

Heh....Am I the only one smart enough and not willing to take the BS and smart enough to look up my local noise ordinances and make them prove it's too loud in court?

I've been issued 4 noise citations and when I went to court asking to see the dB meter they used and the calibration records every one was thrown out.Don't put up with the BS, fight it.

Right now in my car i have an obx header with all 2.5'' piping and a cherry bomb turbo muffler. its not that loud but at about 3k i get a honorable raspy noise bout it only last until about 3200, then it goes quit again ( well half quite). what ever way you look at it a 2.5'' exhaust is gonna be so much louder then the stock piping. I have a glass back that i plan to install where the stock cat/ resignator use to be and ill get back to you then all let you know what it sounds like. But remember the sound of a exhaust may sound good to one person and awful to the next.
