Ok, so i'm new the forums, so excuse my newbishness if it rears its ugly head...

to the point, I've got a 1998 z24 2.4L, and after decking out the audio department of the car (which is my personal specialty), ive decided i need to beef the engine up a bit. I'm going to be working over the summer and will prolly pull in around 2-3g of disposable income, and im wonderin, in ur expert opinions, where i should start as far as improving the performance of my beloved z24, obviously ill be looking at bang for the buck upgrades, and i dont have the know how to look in the direction of forced induction, like i said, im an audio guy, im a mechanical newbie

as i said tho, i'm more or less engine illiterate, im smart, and can figure things out usually, but i'd assume theres a good chance of demolishing my car if i tried to put a supercharger in it :\ if its simple enough that i cuold do it on instructions alone, then point me in the direction of a supercharger and ill be on my way lol

in my humble opinion... learn to do the best with what you have while fine tuning it.

this is what i would do first...

1.) hp tuners
2.) B&M short throw shifter
3.) turbo tech racing engine and trans mounts
4.) md ld9 stock sized aluminum crankshaft and alternator pulley's
5.) intake, either ebay or AEM

6.) prothane control arm bushings and 99 n-body aluminum control arms and a front strut tower brace
7.) header, 2.5" downpipe, high flow cat, 2.5" custom tubes inc. mandrel bent catback system
8.) SMG 58mm bored out stock throttle body
9.) hot tank head, mildly port the head, SS valves, new GM valve springs, fel pro valve seals and new secret cams with new lifters
10.) have car dyno tuned with your hp tuners
11.) team green LSD
12.) drag radials

all that right there considering the bottom end is decent and not worn out, your looking at around 160whp. if you can drive and can get traction you could pull off a mid to high 14 second 1/4 mile.

alright, so with that as something to base it off, are those all things i could do in my garage at home? or would it need to be professionally done?

a lot of the head work would need to be done by a machine shop if you want it done professionally, i mean you could technically do it all yourself. i would definitely at the very least get the head cleaned at a shop though.

everything else i guess it depends on the tools and knowledge of mechanics you have...
