Which batteries can be used for our cars
Sunday, March 01, 2009 12:32 PM
I've read about a couple of them a long time ago, but I can't find the posts or numbers for the batteries.

Which batteries are smaller in dimension and can be used with our cars? Any negative effects of using a smaller battery?

I just installed a Braille B2015.

That's perfect. Any worries with having a smaller battery?

Nope, Braille says the B2015 is great for daily driven 4 cylinders. But due to other "projects" on the car, i wont be able to test it out until later this month.

I also am not running an aftermarket sound system so the only extra load on it it my airride.

Or you could save a lot of money and buy a Deka battery over the Braille.

I can probably get a discount on the odyssey batteries as I used to work for Enersys the company that makes them, get me a part number and I will see what I can do for you guys if interested.

Brailles are rebadged Dekas, which for those who don't know are AGM sealed motorcyle/tractor batteries. You can find a cheaper equivalent battery at Walmart or any parts store. Big Crank ETX16 for $68.95 is another rebadged Deka right inline with the $150+ msrp Braille that Tinkles posted. The "ETX" is the giveaway to being a Deka.

You can google it also. I've seen forums where the Deka ETX14 (ETX line is what you would want to use in a car) was tested against the Braille B14115 with practically identical results. So pretty much go out and buy a motorcyle battery and do the SAE post conversion for well under a $100.

I've worked on many Deka batteries in my days and I will vouch for their quality, for the price I don't think you can beat them.

um... the red top is the smaller cca output one. the yellow top is just whatever it is i guess??

joey- how much could you get one just like david's for me? david- could you have a looksie and see what your part number is and send it to joey?

12lbs is pretty g'damn light for a battery. i dont want one for my white car because its has power everything and a decent sized stereo. but.. for my black car, definitely. it doesnt have one power option and will not have a system so im not worried one bit.

If anyone is considering one of these batteries I would check for any parasitic drain with the car off. They don't like to come back to life after dying. Even something like a car alarm will pull a SLIGHT amount, which won't matter with a OEM spec'd battery, but could be detrimental with a Deka, Braille, or Odyssey. If you're big on drag racing or auto-x I can see using one of these when racing while using a OEM battery for daily driving. Or using two of the small ones in parallel and pulling one when it comes race time. A battery MAINTAINER wouldn't be a bad idea if used daily. Notice I said maintainer and not a trickle charger which doesn't know when to stop and can harm a battery.

The 35/75 case is the model used as stock replacement, so anything that meets that will bolt in.

Go beyond the "bolt-on".

Brad and Chris just give me the part # and I'll see what I can do for you guys, I don't know how much of a discount I get can get but it's worth a shot and could be a lot.

Yellow top should be heavier. Deep cycle = thicker lead plates.

Would any of these batteries have a problem with the car off and the radio on for a while?
