Yea i got a vibrant cat back on the Cav right now and got a fix it ticket on saterday

so know i have to try to quite it down, i need a resonator, just wondering what size some of you guys suggest and also where to pick one up.

is the rest of the exhaust stock? chances are, you'll have to move the cat forward in order to get any decent resonator in there.

I got busted for my vibrant catback also. Guy just said to get a silencer for it. And he let me go.

-Pacesetter Header
-K&N Typhoon Intake
-Fidanze Short Shifter
-18's coming real soon

Oakland PD must be strict.. or that vibrant cat back exhaust must be loud.. (or you were reving it up at the wrong moment lol )
Does it even come with a resonator? if not i would just go down to like auto zone and pick up a cherrybomb glasspack and take it all to an exhaust shop. that will quiet it down.

Thrush makes better glassbacks than cherry bomb IMO i have had both. the thrush was built better. same price for either one. a Res would do you wonders.

anything 18" or longer will work for you. Preferably 22", as that is the largest you can fit behind your cat unless you move it forward.

resonator
I was thinking just ordering this today a having it shipped overnight so i can get it fixed with in the 10 days

just go to your local parts store and get a perforated core glasspack muffler. chances are they have them in stock, and at a cheaper price than online.

just put your stock exhaust back on.. show the cop and get them to sign off on it. then go right home and put the vibrant back on and take it easy around cops in the future.

I'm tired of wasting my time... now I'm breakin' free.

stock exhuast was trashed

a Vibrant, Magnaflow or Thrush resonator will last you longer than a glasspack but they are do the same thing basically. You get what you pay for so its really up to you on how much you want to spend.

It may but it will make your car sound like @!#$. A resonator, good one, is the best option.

yea i just ordered the 18 inch vibrant hope it get here soon so i can solve this crap

wow cops in your area are strict

I have one of
THESE on my car and I don't get hassled...lol.
Sucks to live where you do lol. I agree with whoever said it about the Thrush Resonators, great sound, just make sure you have another muffler on there, they are really loud win used by themselves.

It is an altered exhaust system, since its not OEM.... they don't need one. Its by their own discretion for the most part. The officers I work with don't mind the aftermarket exhausts as long as they are not obnoxious. If it sounds like a really bad exhaust leak/raspy straight pipe, you'll get a ticket.
A lot of Officers are very reasonable if your not a dick to them and straight forwards. I probably could have talked my way out of it by asking him since it is an aftermarket exhaust, what would he like changed about the exhaust note. Too loud overall or raspy? Then simple state you'll take it easy on the throttle and order the parts needed to remedy the problem right away.
After working with several different officers for the past 4 months, you can really see how to act in order to stay on their good side and if you work with them, they'll work with you. Just my $.02.

Maybe its just the Libertarian in me, but "officer discretion" is probably one of the most dangerous precedents I can think of. There needs to be a set standard and a set way of determining if you are over that standard or not. Aftermarket exhaust systems ARE NOT illegal, provided they still have the required emissions devices, can pass testing, and meet the state's db requirement. And I'm fairly certain every state has an exact decible standard. For instance, Cali I believe is 95db measured from X distance away (i'm pretty sure its 100 feet but not positive). And if that officer doesn't have a decibel meter, how can he PROVE you're guilty? If you got pulled over by a cop for "speeding" but he did not use a radar/laser gun, OR pace you out, and says so in court, that charge is getting dropped. The burden of PROOF is on the prosecution, and the police are part of that equation. Leaving things to "officer discretion" is just another way to sit back and say "its ok, I don't need my rights anyway".

Thats what WI law states as well. "Modifying the Vehicle exhaust to be louder then OEM is Illegal." I pointed out that the (new at the time) Neon comes w/o mufflers from the factory, so by logic, my car is quieter then OEM Neons....... the DA didnt buy it.
