Hello all
I am finally getting to the point of building my ported and polished head and getting it on the car soon
I just placed my 1mm Oversize Valves, Bronze Guides and head studs order with Karo
Questions are
Should i be replacing the entire Timing assembly? Gears, Guides, Chain, Tensioner i know is a must.
Anyone have the Clevite Timing assembly Number? or the GM Tensioner number ?
Clevite makes the entire setup for twice the price of just the GM Tensioner, but do i need to spend the money here? There are supposedly 120, 000 Kilometers on the motor
Anyone have a real good link or guide for doing the Cam Swap, going to be installing modifired HO Cams and Towers
Any other tips
Thanks everyone

well in my opinion yes you should replace all the timing components. because lets face it.. something in here fails its going to cost you a re-build. and why would you want to risk your expensive engine and all your time in it by using used parts?
i went with a cloyes timing kit. it was from rockauto.com and around $180 shipped IIRC.
cam swap is a job to say the least, best advice i can give you is buy a a haynes manual and just take your time, remember what you took out and in what order with what bolts, if you have to put everything in separate labeled boxes and bags to keep things organized.

I'm tired of wasting my time... now I'm breakin' free.
^correct now the most difficult area will be timing the engine right. I agree to use new timing components as well.
Remember to install the cams with the dowel pin straight up. The haynes manual will help but you still need to have some understanding on how to do it.
There are timing marks on the block so align the crank with that line and insert bolts in the cam gears and go from there. Again if you need any help let me know. What happen to those pics you were going to send me?
GMR has got nothing on this
I have the GM shop manuals for the LD9
I will start looking into new Timing sets
Which pics sorry?
