% drivetrain loss

I just got off a night shift and am kinda tired so I didn't search that much so dont yell at me cause I know how annoying it is to read things over and over again, but from what I can see in a few minutes there isn't a whole lot. So I am finishing up tuning my car tomorrow and gonna see what the car puts down. I am wondering what % a 2000 LD9 with 5 speed will loose through the drivetrain.

I have heard in the past a 15-25% range is generally what is seen but am wondering if someone has a more accurate %? In my few minute search I did find a post that said most front wheel drive 5spd cars have an 18% drivetrain loss and most automatic front wheel drives have close to a 24% loss.

I am wondering if anyone can confirm or has some insight. I am just curious to know for when I get my whp to figure my bhp as accuately as possible. For example, say my car dynoed 210whp that would be 241.4bhp assuming a 15% drivetrain loss and 263.5bhp assuming a 25% loss, thats a 21bhp difference. I know whp is what your looking for but just to compare to other cars that are rated from the factory as bhp. If anyone can help me out that would be wicked. In the meantime I guess this 18% is what I am gonna go with until I hear otherwise.

it is impossible to accurately estimate what % loss you have through the drivetrain. every car will be different, and every dyno will give you a slightly different number. this is the reason why horsepower and torque numbers mean nothing to me. bring it to the track and we'll see what you car has for power.

well I think hp/tq have a big part in getting good 1/4mile times. As for taking my car to the track to see how much power is has is not gonna be a true representative of it cause I had major traction issues last summer (i have since made some traction investments, LSD/drag radials). Anyways, I never had the car dynoed last summer so I don't know what I was putting down but my best 1/4 is 15.012@93.36 with a 2.458 60'. So I figure I would have ran a mid 14 if I had some traction last summer. There is a test and tune here tuesday so I am gonna get my radials on some rims and see if I can break into the 14's this summer. The track here is about 3/10ths slower than the other tracks I have ran but I have slips from last year so I can compare the difference/improvements.

obviously horsepower and torque have a lot to do with et's, but the numbers that most people take for actual whp are incorrect anyway. et's are actual representations of what your car can do, and more importantly what you can do with your car. any dumb ass can put their car on an ego-boosting dynojet and say they have a million horsepower, but put it on the track and see what it can do for real. dyno's are good for one thing, imo, and that is tuning.
