question about 2.3 oil pump conversion

Hey guys, well I've had my 00 cavy for a few years now and with putting a new motor in it shortly I've started to wanna get into the performance options I can get for it...I currently have. 2.4l dohc in the car now and I've been hearing a lot about swapping a oil pump from to 2.3ho into the 2.4 motor....why? Lol what's the difference between the 2 set ups? And is it a costly swap to do. I know the oiling system on the 2.4 right now is junk...figured that out when connect rod bearing #2 failed on me and the piston started hitting the head....is that why you guys are putting the pumps from a 2.3 in?? Well that's the question, if anyone has time feel free to help me out on this one. Haha

yes. basically... in a nutshell the 2.3 oil pump is far superior to the stock 2.4 POS one.

the 2.4 uses balance shafts as part of the entire assembly, the 2.3 does not.

not only does it serve as a nice replacement, it ends up dropping quite a bit of rotating mass as well as dead weight from the engine.

PFFT secret cams?! pm me if you want a real upgrade.

Search for a writeup there is a really good one on here

Does involve some machining

I agree do a search. But to sum it up you need to drill 2 holes in the block rather precisley, tap and plug a few holes, and get the parts. I got the pickup, bracket, and baffle for about $60 if i remeber right. I still need the crank gear which is like $89 last I looked and the oil pan must be modified and deepened 1". If you do a search there is a writeup with pics that show you step by step how to do it. This is a very simplified explanation of what needs to be done.
