I was doing some reading and snooping around. OCC, does anyone have an estimate on what it would cost to rehone the cylinders, and re-ring the pistons on a 97 2.2? And after that, an estimate on what a Bore& Stroke with the associated new pistons/cams/head/con rods etc. the only one I would probably ever be able to do (or would do) is a rehone and new rings. But it depends on the cost. Anybody who has any clue please post.
Brainfart. pushrods/lifters etc. Also while I'm at it, though I suspect I know the answer, this really wouldn't help with anything would it?
you're really going about this the wrong way. if you want to make decent power (enough to not make an ohv/auto slow), you're going to need to buy alot of stuff.
step 1. ebay intake with k&n cone.
step 2. ceramic header with new cat and mandrel exhaust.
step 3. 1.6 roller rocker swap.
step 4. ported and polished (but still streetable) head.
step 5. buy block from a wrecker, and a full rebuild kit (full gasket kit, new pistons, camshaft, lifters, timing set, water pump, oil pump, and all associated bearings), and associated tools (crafstman socket and wrench set, jack and stands, torque bar, tri bar and ball hones). this should run you roughly $1000 for everything in this step, including a shop manual. currently, no one makes a stroker crank, or any aftermarket crank for that matter for a 2.2 ohv.
step 6. drop new engine in car, and realize with steps 1-5, you've only gained roughly 25 hp.
i love my ohv for what it is, a slow, economic, unkillable machine.
