problem with my LD9 swap
Sunday, July 19, 2009 10:57 PM
ok guys. so we started my car today. started right up but then died shortly after. thinking its the theft crap engaged . we tried the sequence and it still doesn't want to stay on. .unless were doing it wrong. any ideas? everythingis plugged in and nothing seems to be wrong other than the theft light being on.not flashing.just on. has anybody who's done the swap with a pre 2000 cav had anything else to swap out? the harness is from a 2000 auto.mine is a 97 and I had the ohv in there . were in need of any kind of help. we'll be trying again tomorrow after work but as u can see we were up late screwing with it.thanks in advance!

I NEED a 97-99 LD9 engine harness for an auto.PM if u hav info.!!

I need a few details here...

You are putting in a 2000 LD9 and engine harness into a 97 J-body?

Or are you running the OHV harness on the LD9? (or trying to)...?

Please clarify what it is you're trying to do... but at first glance it sounds like you're missing the BCM, interior harness and cluster for the 2000+ swap.

yes I'm putting in a 2k ld9 with a 2k harness and pcm into a 97 that had a ohv. I was un aware that I needed the bcm and swap interior crap too. I only heard I needed to swap the interior harness if I was doin a eco swap. not the ld9.

2k PCM requires a BCM to run many of the functions...

If you grab yourself a 1997 or 1998 Engine harness and PCM that should plug into your stock interior harness and cluster and work fine after a quick theft relearn. (This will also require the low impedance 24 lb/hr injectors from 96-98 LD9's)

Why not just use a harness from a '99? Don't have to change injectors then and can do without EGR...

Hmm. I have a 2000 pcm with a 99 wiring harness swapped into my cav. The only thing that doesn't work is the stock tach and coolant gauge. The car started right up if I remember correctly.

Yeah, come to think about it, I had my '99 PCM flashed with the '00 S/C tune on it with a '00 engine harness and no BCM and it started fine. I just didn't have ECT, tach, and all engine lights were on, but it ran fan.

Hmm... that's really odd. I know that VATS is stored in the BCM for 2k+.. did you guys disable VATS in the PCM to do these flashes?

VATS is stored in the cluster for 95-99... perhaps it's because of the different engine harness?

well we just remembered we have a 99 pcm w/egr. the one I have in the car now is a 2k pcm. ill swap that and then try the relearn sequence and see what happens then.hopefully that's the reason my cluster isn't working. we'll see. thanks forthe input so far guys. I appreciate it

Yea just do the relearn sequence. Soon as you start the car and it dies, leave the key in that position. Do not open the doors, climb out the window if you have to lol. After 10 mins or when the theft light stops flashing, reach in the window if you get out and take the key out for maybe 2 seconds. Then try and start the car again. It SHOULD fire.

the 00-05 dash is run through the bcm , so the 00-05 pcm uses a different signal to let the bcm know what the gauges should be reading

the 99-older the dash gets the info from the pcm directly

ok so here's n update. so swapping on the pre 2000 pcm did nothing really. we had scotts tech 2 and took off the vtd. still nothing happened. well then we found out its the passlock. the pcm and the icp aren't communicating since their obviously diff . can hpt fix the passlock problem and be able to pull up the vin from the pcm to fix all this crap? this os my last resort and I'm willing to pay for the credit.

Rick what cluster do you have in the car now? Pre 2000 right? and with or without tach?

Your 99 PCM should synch up with the cluster after a re-learn period...

Hmm...

For the 2000 pcm you could disable VATS with HPTUNERS if you wanted, but that's a last resort since it'll cost you credits... and your gauges wont' work properly.

i dunno. see with both pcms the theft light didnt flash at all. so when we switched to the 97 pcm it did the same thing. then we got the tech 2 and deleted the vtd and it still wouldnt start. i believe the codes we received said it was a mis communication with the pcm wich led to it being the stupid passlock. now scot is gonna get his laptop updated and see if we cant use the laptop and the tech 2 and fix it. my last resort would be using hpt. but if im using hpt wouldnt it be better to use it on the 97 pcm or the 00+ ?

use it for the 97 PCM. the 00+ PCM is going to still expect the BCM to be there, which it isn't.

Something is weird here. I have a 2000 pcm in my 97 car with a 99 wiring harness. I had no problem with starting the car now that I asked my friend about it when we did the swap.

Not when we swapped pcm's. The only thing the 2000 pcm had was the GM s/c reflash on it. We started the car without even touching it with HPT.
