Exhaust system?
Sunday, August 09, 2009 3:22 AM
I was looking into getting a high performance exhaust for my 2003 Sunfire w/ 2.2 ecotech. I hate the mad bumble bee sound that some exhausts produce, so I was wondering if anybody had any suggestions for me?

Do what i did.. (infact i just got done installing)

Pacesetter header.. custom make the downpipe so that its atleast 2.5".. (i went 3" because the collector was 3")

Run a magnaflow highflow cat thats 2.5" and run a 31" cherrybomb so that right off the dowpipe your cat and ressonator will go.. (and it will run the length of your exhaust until right before the first bend for the over axle peice..

Then run the CustomTubes 2.5" madreal bent pipe over the trailing arm..

And as for mufflers thats totally up to you.. if you want something with a tip or if you want something loud or something with performance but is about as loud as stock then all of those are optional..

I went back to a hooker aerochamber 2.5" exahust and my exhaust dosent have rasp.. it dosent buzz or sound like beez in a can.. Its very deep very un like most cavalier exhaust ive heard.

But i think why my exhaust dosent sound raspy now is because my downpipe isent the smallers part of my exhaust any more.. infact its the biggest. most downpipes are i beleve between 2.25" and 2" wich is essentally stock sized. and if you think about things like i do and you have a little pipe blowing into a bigger pipe its going to sound loud and annoying like a kazzoo.. if you reverse that its not going to.

So the customtubesinc exhaust off their website goes how far? I thought it was a catback. not an axle back.

It is a cat back.. but the ressonator/cherrybomb im using basically takes up the space from after the cat to the first bend on the over axle.

My downpipe-Cat- Ressonator takes up all the room.

Highly recommend this if your looking for a nice sounding exhaust.

The other reason its deeper sounding is because of the downpipe size.

The smaller downpipe is the standard size of pacesetter/OBX.. This is what makes our exhaust sound buzzy and raspy.

Where did you get that clamp style flange that connects the header to the flex? Nice setup!

Its a V-band clamp. A Yahoo search should provide a bunch of dealers.
