so today i got a call from a local shop near my house and it arrived! my first mod for my j, an aem cold air intake
i cant wait to get it on her tomorrow after work. many of you don't know me as i just joined last week but i just purchased my 05 sunfire back at the beginning of the summer (my very own first car that I have paid for) and loving every minute of it and all the help and faqs j-body has given me. so from me to all the veterans of this site thank you.
Goood catch. And good call on the intake being your first mod. You will love the sound it makes when you give it a bit of gas. It's very addicting. Be aware that you might get addicted to modding your car more and more after this.
Just a little advice. Buy a hydroshield (synthetic material that goes over filter) for your filter. It will get wet easily, even from simple car washes mine gets wet. But don't be worried at all. I've ran my aem cai through TONS of abuse, and never once came close to hydrolock. I DD my car 260km per day, 4-6 days a week depending. And the aem has held through it all except winter, make sure to take it off and g back to stock (save your stock system) before the freezing weather hits.
The main reason besides the added protection vs a possible hydrolock, is that it'll save you from having to replace your filter as many times. I have found that it gets real dirty when it's being soaked in water multiple times a week, and the hydroshield helps with this.

hey everyone, i have not been able to come on and update since i last posted but i got it on on thursday and i got to say its amazing. i love the sound it makes especially in 2nd gear when i give it some gas. Shane, thanks for the suggesting the hydroshield i didn't even know about it so i'm going to look into getting that soon.
No problem. Oh and did you save your stock intake setup? You'll want it for when winter comes, or if you plan on reselling the car as stock.
yup i kept the stock setup and stored it away the second i got it all off my car just in case i needed to go back to stock for some reason.
what color is ur fire?? N nice i got an aem cai as well i love it, you mite want to use a smaller thickness of hose, the one coming from your valve cover to the top of the black plastic piece that mounts on you throttle body, for some reason on my 02' (not sure if this is true with the 03+) that hose rubs vigorously on my hood and eventually punctured a hole in it... any 1 have this problem??
