We are working on a 2.2 non eco 01 cav. she has a hole in the block and now we need a new motor. So i need some info on the 2.2 eco and 2.4 eco swaps on wat we need and how difficult. And no this is not my first time i personally have a 97 neon with the 2.4 srt-4 turbo in mine so i can do a swap.

swapping away from anything other than another ohv requires the engine, trans, mounts, shift linkage (if its a different trans), computer and wiring harness, as well as all accessories, hoses, power steering lines, and a few other misc. goodies.

you could also swap to a 60*v6, which would take just a little more effort.

This. Best swap for an OHV equipped car IMO (I'm a bit biased, but if you consider it, it makes sense). Read here if you haven't seen it yet.

Keep your tranny, pretty much bolt the motor in (especially if you get one of my mounts), and just some minor wiring and exhaust work. And it will respond very well to a turbo.

2.2 ECOTEC swap would probably be easiest for you in this case. You'll need engine, trans, and electronics to do it, from an 02 or newer ECOTEC J-body. Though it might not have a lot of power, it certainly takes to mods well if that's what you want to do.

Going to the 2.4 Ecotec will be harder because of the electronics having to come from the Cobalt. You'll have compatibility issues all the way around. You'll also have to be swapping the E-throttle in with it. It can be done i'm sure, but noone has done it. So you'll be the first one to do it, so if you go that route, take lots of pics and lots of notes and post all about it. But you will find out how difficult when GM stacks everything against you, especially with the electronics.
