alright im stumped not sure what could be causeing this . a friend of mine has a 00 cavalier its got the 2200 engine we put a turbo kit on it running just 6 psi . now here is the problem when you start the car it runs fine no noise but after it reaches temp and with one trip around the block problems start . after the gets under a load the oil light comes on at idle and you start to hear a knocking sound in the engine . so i suggested replacing the oil pump snd the rod bearings .so after replacing them both ( he has eagle rods ) we started agian with the same results . ive also tried oil from the 5w 30 synthetic to castrol 20/50 with the same problem . any ideas ?
if you arent spraying your just playing !!!
couple of things do u have a turbo timer if no get one
it allows the engine to idle a certain amount of time after the engine shuts off this prevents cooking of the oil premature failure of the turbo
when u instal a turbo your suppose to turn the engine over a couple of times with the coils unhooked so oil can lubricate the bearings of the turbo and build some oil pressure in the turbo and 15 - 40 is the oil u should be useing useing 5 - 30 sythetic is to light of an oil and will cause the bearings to be worn out and wont provide adequate lubrication of engine internals
rings could be gone
crank could be damaged
there could be carbon build up on the top of the piston causeing it to hit the valves of hit the head this happens from an engine running to lean this actually happens ive seen pistons from stock cars pulled and theres enough carbon build up on it that head studs actually snaped off thats why proper afr is very important in turboing
not high enough octane fuel
problem with the engine control system or pcm
fuel injection problem
egr not working properly
vacum leak
improper plugs
your oil light is from not enough oil in the engine again 15 - 40 should be used
not strong enough fuel pump
but mainly could be one of the top few things i posted
did u get your crank balanced before u installed the eagle rods as well as the rods you might not be able to tell from looking at them but unbalanced rods and crank can lead to engine failure and a throwing money away
look at all this and if it dont fix your poblem then i got no idea
if it start the next day it can be driven harder
I don't know about the engine you are talking about but the turbo may be robbing the engine of too much oil depending on where you hooked it up. I would try asking some other people where they hooked it up and if they used a restrictor inline to decrease the volume of oil taken from the engine for the turbo but make sure you give the turbo enough oil too. Someone with experience with that engine would probably be able to help you better but im trying my best, sry. Its unlikely but possible. You could seriously mess something up without the needed out pressure so I wouldn't drive it till it gets resolved. About the oil weight, again I am not sure about your engine but I have been using 5w/30 on my turbo ecotec for about 12000 miles with no issues with engine or turbo (still minimal shaft play).
if you put a "restirctor line" or regulator in, if you do it after the turbo, before the oil comes back to the motor, then your turbo will get lots of oil too.
