From what I understand, by reading in the third gen forum BTW, The 3800 does fit, but you have to basically rebuild the whole front end of the car.

You could swap it out for a 2000+ motor, either 3100 or 3400, and get a decent gain that way. The newer motors will also respond better to mods than the one you have, because the heads and manifolds flow better. It would be an easy swap for you. With just a properly chosen cam you could be over 200hp quickly on the newer motors.

He doesn't have a 3800. Read the first post. He has a 3100.

yea, but does he want to make more power out of his engine now, or swap, and make more power out of the 3.8? i'm confused...oh well...either way, i don 't know much about either, lol!

Maybe try asking j-body related questions on J-body.org. And ask questions about that Cutlass on a more appropriate board?

Can you just swap heads by any chance? Vaguely remember talks of 3100/3400 hybrids on 60degreeV6.

You can swap the 3400 top end onto the 3100. Heads and intakes will gain you a good amount of power.

You can swap the top end of any 00+ 3100 or 3400 and you will see a substantial gain. The heads and intake manifolds are identical between the 2000+ 3100 and 3400 engines. The only difference is the number cast into the upper intake.

For anyone considering this top end swap, I would seriously consider doing the cam at the same time. The newer heads and intakes flow much better than the ones on your engine, and adding a cam with them at the same time would wake it up in a huge way.
