Hey guys. I have owned my 04 Cavy for close to a year now and it has been treating me great. I daily drive this car and before winter sets in I am trying to get some work done to the car.
Well one of the things I am looking to take care of is replacing the stock exhaust. I found out after buying this car that it was rear-ended at some point in its life. Because of this, the exhaust pipe is kinked/bent up into the floor of the car. When I shift, the exhaust hits the floor which is pretty annoying. Also I am not sure if the kink in the pipe is causing a restriction to the motor which is hurting my MPG.
Anyway, instead of just swapping in a bone stock exhaust, I might as well just spend the money towards an aftermarket replacement. While I am at it, I am just going to replace the entire exhaust (header, DP, cat, cat-back). However I am not exactly sure what brand, size, and setup I should go with on my car?
I really never EVER plan to turbo or Supercharge this car so I know I am not going to need a massive size pipe. I also still want to run a Cat on the car and the largest resonator possible. I don't mind if the car is louder then stock, however I do not want any ear bleeding exhaust system on this car being my everyday daily driver.
I know most of the bolt-on cat-back kits sometimes don't come with a resnator and they can be very loud vs the stock exhaust. So that is one of the reasons why I am not sure if I want to buy a cat-back system or piece one together?
I have been looking at getting a 2.5" system for my car however people are telling me that maybe overkill and to just go with 2.25" instead? What is the stock exhaust system size? 2.25" just seems a bit small too me?
As of right now I have been looking at the pacesetter polished header, Magnaflow Cat, and then maybe having OEM make me a 2.5" resonated single stainless exhaust.
With my other toy car I was able to buy a complete bolt up system and it looks like if I am doing the entire exhaust on the cavy, I am going to have to have a place make me a custom DP from the pacesetter header, weld on the cat and connect it to the OEM cat-back exhaust. Is this correct?
I just want to make this as simple as possible and not have to pay a shop make a bunch of custom piping for me.
So if you guys could suggest a the size, parts, and brands to look into that be great.

Definatly run something stainless if you are going to run it in the winter. I would recommend the Magnaflow or the Megan Racing stainless exhaust.

I just got a sneak peak of my exhaust today from Atomic. Sooo sexy. I recommend him. He offers 304 Stainless Steel(wont rust), the option for a cat or resonator, a few different sizes, and a couple different mufflers.

2.5" is fine. Get a CTI cat back and pick the high flow cat, resonator and muffler of your choice - I suggest the dynomax super turbo with an at least 18" resonator. Also suggest the pacesetter ceramic coated 4-1 header - either the LSJ or L61 variety. Have a shop hang and weld it all and you have a nice sounding, high performing system for probably well under 800...
I was well under 800 anyways
Just buy all 3" youll love the way it sounds..
