FlowMaster Mufflers

Hey guys, what would be better for a 2.4 Sunfire: a FlowMaster 60 Series Delta Flow or a FlowMaster 40 Series Delta Flow??? I´m looking for a high flow muffler to take advantage of the header I've installed on my car but I don't want it to become too loud...

Dynomax. with a resonator will be nice and mellow.

Nomaster.... flow like crap.

if you want a high flow muffler then you do not want a flowmaster. dynomax supertubro is where its at.

I don't know how the flowmaster delta series work on smaller motors but I have a delta flow 40 series on my truck and it sounds amazing...its pretty quiet but has a nice rumble...I would take the other peoples advise for the cavalier but if you have a GMC 1500 with a 327ci in it then I would definately suggest the delta flow.

Once I had a FlowMaster on my Sunfire but it was extremely loud, I think it was a 80 series muffler that I bought while I was changing my car's tubing.. At the very beginning I liked the agressive sound but after taking the car to a trip to the beach I got head ache for about 2 days (no joke haha).. But I didn't know anything about FlowMaster different muffler types options back then.. So I'm expecting it to be pretty quiet but still nice/different and with much better flow than a regular silencer.. I was checking FlowMaster website and I noticed another option that would be the 50 Series Delta Flow that it's supposed to have a moderate sound level..

Honestly this is the first time I hear about Dynomax.. I'm looking for a balance between sound level and flow, I prefer to sacrify a little bit of flow for having a quieter car. What about Magnaflow??

Sound....

Not FLOW.

Flow master is atleast 150-200 CFM less then the QUIET Dynomax.

If you want High Flow, (1050 CFM) Get the Ultra-Flo.

Ok got it but in this case we're talking about a naturally aspired engine which is a daily ride, I see in your signature that you're car is supercharged so I can see why you're so focused on the flow but would the CFM from a FlowMaster be good enough for my car?

The Dynomax will sound much better. I had a 40 series on my car and it was since been replaced by a Dynomax. Much quieter and more enjoyable.

I want to say it was called Super Turbo or some BS like that. Its quiet and has no problem with letting teh exhaust gasses past.

DynoMax SuperTurbo > Flowmaster, especially when you're talking about the sound on a small engine.
Flowmaster's sound pisser on a V8, but like ass on a 4 banger, particularly if you don't have a good resonator.

Magnaflow or Dynomax Super Turbo or Borla is what you want

My Dynomax is raspy as hell but I have a 4-1 header, catless, with a 14" long Magnaflow reasonator.

GET A BIG REASONATOR

with a proper exhaust system, a BIG resonator isn't necessary. i have a pacesetter header, catco spun cat, 22" OAL thrush glasspack (they're the only reasonably priced perforated core ones available, do not under any circumstances go louvered core if you want flow), 2 1/4 piping and a superturbo. only gets lout at WOT >3000 rpm.

My old sunfire (99 2200/3 speed) had a Stans header, full 2 1/4 exhaust w flowmaster 40 series delta. Sounded great, very deep for a 4 cylinder. My current car (04 cav eco 4 speed), I had a 2 1/4 cat back w dynomax superturbo (?) muffler...was pretty loud and didnt sound very good, especially after about a year or so. It now has a short magnaflow resonator (14" i think) and a flowmaster 50 series delta. It is quieter and better sounding than the earlier set-up. I havent noticed any performance difference, so if there is a flow difference it doesnt matter on a mild bolt-on car.

About This Vehicle:
working on it....injen intake, eibach sways, short shifter, springs and struts, front and rear strut braces, alum wheels, wider tires, better spark plug wires, xplode speakers

Sparkplug wires for your ecotec you say? What wires did you use?

i have 2.5" mandrel bent tubing from downpipe back with magnaflow cat and flowmaster 40 series and its nice deep and mean, especially at wot and low rpm cruising, im constantly asked if it s a v6 cav, on my 98 i have a cherry bomb turbo muffler with a 14" resonator and 2.5" crush bent cat back piping, its really mellow sounding with a little rumble and gets a little louder at wot, but my 05 sounds like a beast. i have vid links if you'd like to hear, just message me.

oh and both my cavs have 3" resonated tip, same one's on both.

This is what I have. Quiet at idle, nice tone while cruising, loud when you step on it.

The 40 sounded like poo for me on the same setup as I have with the magnaflow. Header, 2 1/4 piping all the way, resonator, and cat.

I like the magnaflow better.

I had one of those oval shaped flowmasters on a 200 Tiburon (4 cylinder) with a stock exhaust and it sounded good...

My sunfire has a header, a 23" cherry bomb glasspack (for a res), as magnaflow cat, and one of those pacesetter mufflers (monza I think) thats just a big oval glasspack and I like the way it sounds...

But if I ever changed the exhaust I'de prob go with a chambered high flow muffler instead...

Forget both those options.

what you really need is to find a buddy with a 240sx with an 3.5" HKS exhaust and convince him that he should get rid of his ressonator and give it to you.

THE BEST sounding muffler ive ever had!

and yes i have a 3.5" exhaust. and it is AWESOME!
