Quad 4 Midget (320 HP @ 10,000 RPM)

Quote:

2.3 L Olds Quad 4 midget engine.

As a midget engine it has no provision for a starter and to further lighten the block all accessory mounting bosses have been machined off. This motor is not for the street, it runs on methanol only.

Hilborn fuel injection

MSD crank fired midget ignition, includes ignition tester and hand programmer. Ignition is set up with 2 triggers and a switch to drop out timing for starting etc.

14.5:1 CR, forged crank, solid lifters, dry sump oiling system, includes some lines and filter

Custom header, Aluminum P/S pump driven from exhaust cam.

Includes crank adapter, U-joint and drive shaft coupler.

Motor is set to run laid over 25 degrees but can be run straight up.

Was dynoed at 320 HP at 10,000 RPM.

Could be detailed and polished to look like an Offy for vintage racing.

See my other auctions for additional spares or parts for additional HP.

Pick up in Granville MA is best, I can crate the engine and small parts, the header may pose a problem. Total weight and crate of cost is just a guess. I will drive up to 500 miles for $.50 per mile to deliver / me

Interesting!

lol i was going to try and buy it until he told me it runs on straight methanol and HAS to be push started. has no provision for a starter or accessories. all that stuff has been shaved off the block. the ITB's at 10,000 would have to sound just INSANE.

but yes, its nice to know 320hp is certainly acheivable. but... with those kind of stipulations im not so sure it'd be worth it. to me at least. id be fine with 250whp on pump gas and streetable.

i bought a set of cams off him yesterday though, same ones in this motor. .268 duration / .470 lift.

All I want... is a little of the good life

Are they lifting it by valve cover bolts in those pics, or is that just to steady it???

Pretty insane build. I see as of now the bidding is at 1k, but the reserve has not been met. At 2k it's still a steal if you have a purpose for it.

Dont forget a $1500 investment in a dry sump oiling system?

^^^ how so? you can buy the pumps on ebay all day long for $50. hell, ive got one. i was going to do a dry sump setup on a 2.4 before the 2.3 swap was so common. might still try one day.

with the lines, pump, custom bracketry etc you'd be hard pressed to spend a grand.

well you are right, it does get expensive. but ive got almost a grand in just my 2.3 oil pump swap setup at current so hell, it might be more cost effective to do a dry sump setup.

"Looks like an Offy engine...."

Well... I haven't heard that since I read it in Street Rodder Magazine several-years ago! For those of you that don't know what an Offy is:
A full-race DOHC I-4 engine designed & built in the 1930s for use primarily in midget-class & Indy race-cars that looked-like a giant version of someone's mother's slipper-sock with wheels attached. In supercharged-2.0L trim it supposedly made 200hp.

Go beyond the "bolt-on".

^^^ I'm pretty sure every Quad4 guy knows what an Offenhauser looks like.

dry sump is where its at, especially n/a.

ARE makes some sweet stuff for the ecotec.. an upgrade for the skwirl in the future without doubt.

Those are the cam housing bolts, 8MM studs actually down into the head casting. No harm done, but yeah, not the best choice.
