I have a 2000 cavalier with a bad engine. Can I put the engine out of a 2002 cavalier in with no problem? I wanted to do an ecotec but I would have to change the tranny I was told. I couldn't find any information on it and I wanted to make sure before I bought the new engine.
well first off what engine came out of the 2000 and what engine is in the 2002?
they are both 2.2l. I just don't know if they are exactly the same or if there is a small difference that could turn into a pain later.
i own a cavy 2002 with the 2.2 sfi but i would like to swap my engine to an ecotec, besides the engine, tranny, ecu and wire harness what else do i need?
is it an auto or a manual?
Autos need a new:
torque convertor
tranny mount
Axels
shifter assembly
shifter cable
gauge cluster
Radiator
Hoses
I'm not going anywhere just yet

If you have an auto, and you're sticking with an auto (or you have a 5 speed and are sticking with a 5 speed), you don't need half that stuff Ashallee just listed. Axles stay the same, cluster you never need to change... rad and hoses you DO change if you're changing to an Ecotec.
