2000 Cavalier engine swap
Monday, May 11, 2009 3:28 PM
I have a 2000 cavalier with a bad engine. Can I put the engine out of a 2002 cavalier in with no problem? I wanted to do an ecotec but I would have to change the tranny I was told. I couldn't find any information on it and I wanted to make sure before I bought the new engine.

they are both 2.2l. I just don't know if they are exactly the same or if there is a small difference that could turn into a pain later.

is it an auto or a manual?

Autos need a new:
torque convertor
tranny mount
Axels
shifter assembly
shifter cable
gauge cluster
Radiator
Hoses

I'm not going anywhere just yet

If you have an auto, and you're sticking with an auto (or you have a 5 speed and are sticking with a 5 speed), you don't need half that stuff Ashallee just listed. Axles stay the same, cluster you never need to change... rad and hoses you DO change if you're changing to an Ecotec.
