probably a newb question...
but I've been checking a lot of people's car mods, and a lot list a "Velocity Stack"
Can anyone elaborate on wtf this is?

they are typically found inside of intake manifolds to help the flow think of it like a funnel

this is one for the inlet of ur intake pipe going into ur engine ..........
and this is one that u can make runners out of for ur intake manifold or use them on the inletsof itb's.......

i make neons go fast
lol sweet thanks
that's pretty cool
So where would they be installed if you changed the intake mani?
I'm running with the LE5 manifold, and a AEM CAI which has no room to add another peice

you don't install them, the intake runner pipes on the manifold will have velocity stacks that go inside the plenium
They are already fab'd into the LE5 manifold?

no that manifold does not have them and they cant be put in. Generally they are in higher end after market manifolds.

huh? they make ones you can use instead of an air filter for an intake.
believe it or not, it does actually improve performance. same goes with the exhaust, a megaphone pipe will help the gases escape easier, like a backwards velocity stack.

I was assuming he wanted to actually make some power, not looking for air filter gimicks. Actual velocity stacks should be at the end of straight intake runners if you want to make power.
some cars gain up to 15whp with a proper 'filter gimmick' v-stack. not bad but you need to get it just right.
but i get what ur saying and agree.

yes they make ones for the end of ur intake pipe where ur filter normally goes, the first pic i put up above is one made of plastic.

Yeah sure it does. just like white paint on a lambo increases propulsion, cause light beams are bouncing off it right?
Velocity stacks on the end of your intake where you filter normally goes DO WORK.
My friends D16 dyno'd 4whp more with the velocity stack than with a filter or with no filter.
All 3 runs done back to back........Filter-No Filter-Velocity Stack.
And it only makes like 130whp....air flow ussually works by %....so it would probably be more power on a larger engine.
Late the haters hate, but 4whp for like $20 bucks......thats a damn good bang for the buck IMO. Which is exactly why I now run one on my car when I'm at the track.
but if it's there instead of a filter... can't you get crap in your engine?

thats why mine only goes on when i go to the track. street driving gets a filter. also they have filters that have a v-stack built in them now.

more info lol anybody?
what info would you like?
you can buy cone type filters that have v/s at the connection point of pipe, weaponR is one.
blucavvy - mine looks exactly like the first one Mike (ammfab) posted, added a coupler to the end and I just swap it out for my filter at the track.
Got some plans to make it into a "bird catcher" for next year.....gotta figure out what I'm doing with the battery first tho.
Yes dirt can technically get in there, even tho right now its on just a K&N WAI, but nothing ever does....or its too small to do any damage.....I've forgot it on there before and left the track, only to realize an hour or so down the road later I didn't put my filter back on.
No harm ever done.
