2002 cavalier 2200 sfi performance

Hi all,

im new to these forums and relatvely new to owning a cavalier, as it is he first car of my own. i have read a few other threads to try and find an answer but i didnt see something as straight up as i was looking for, so for anyone who knows their stuff about cavaliers, i have a few questions.

before i even ask i need to put it out there that i dont have a lot of experience working on cars and i dont have access to a full shop of my own, which obviously means im asking for a bunch of favors or i have to pay someone to do the work for me.

that said im aware that the 2200 gives about 110hp and im curious as to what is the most cost effective way to increase that. im not looking to race, or have a rediculously fast car, just hoping for something in the 150-170hp or more range. nothing too special but just a little bit more fun to drive. i noticed in other posts that a bunch of people recommend an engine swap because the base hp on a 2.4 or an ecotec is quite a bit higher, but if im paying for the labour, is it still worth it? lastly, im always willing to buy used parts etc so if there is something peticular that i should look for that kind of info would be great, and if used doesnt seem to be the right way to go, any suggestions on websites or reliable companies would be helpful.

long story short, im a noob, hoping to break 150hp but not my bank. taking all suggestions or constructive criticism.

thanks.

pretty much.to get to 150 on an ohv would probably cost more than to buy all the parts (including engine and trans), tools, and a repair manual.
