You need to replace the transmission too, the ECU, and its not as simple as just swapping the engines around...

SHIFT:

Can you have the ECU from the 2.2 re-programed to the 2.4? Or do you need to get a new ECU? Just wondering becasue I am finishing my 2.4 swap and was wondering!

to reprogram the pcm to the 2.4 it needs to be in the car & you have to give them the vin of a car with the programming you want. So basically youd be towing the car to them. Might as well just pick up one somewhere that already has 2.4 programming to match since youll be doing the wiring anyways & putting a pcm on that.

So I would need a PCM for a 2.4 and not the ECU?

PCM=ECM=ECU=ECC=about fifty other names. The only real difference between a PCM and an ECM is that the PCM also controls a transmission, hence- powertrain control module.

SAE actually has a requirement for what a manufacturer is supposed to call it, but no one really follows it.

It gets really confusing when you have a car that has both a TCM and an ECM.

So if I can't fine a pcm with the 2.4 I can just take the vin off of the new motor and have the 2.2 pcm reprogramed righ?

An engine doesn't have any VIN. you can use any 99-02 2.4 with any 99-02 2.4 ecm without being reprogrammed.

The reason you need to reprogram the Ecm is because of the BCM.

on the block there is a vin #......trust me there is. But I don't have a 2.4 ecu....so my question is if I can't find a 2.4 ecu, can I just have the 2.2 reprogramed to the 2.4?

VIN = Vehicule identification number

The engine only have a casting number, Serial number and RPO code.

And it doesn't do sh** that you got the engine you want, the Ecm is not program for a specific engine. You can run a 2.2 Ecm on a 2.4 engine but you don't know enough to do it.

No you probably can't get the 2.2 Ecm reprogrammed for the 2.4 since some Ecm don't have the same pin on the connection.

Check car-parts.com for Ecm. They have alot of them.
