Up for sale... 1996 Cavalier LS convertible 2.4 5spd. Bought this car 4-5 months ago from another forum member. Car should have been an easy fix (and may still be but i'm tired of throwing money at it and we just got approved for a new vehicle so this one has to go) as it had a slight hesitation. Red with a black top and some aftermarket upgrades.
the good:
~body has 130k miles, motor has around 70k according to previous owner
~timing gear and water pump were replaced before the motor was put in (again according to previous owner)
~new crank position sensor, map sensor, vaccum lines, battery, spark plugs, and ecu
~Pacesetter header (installed by previous owner)
~2.25" borla exhaust (off my sedan... needs a little work to make it fit 100% but is an easy fix)
~brand spankin' new ebay wai
~b&m short shifter
the bad:
~tranny has a slight grind in 3rd. if you shift slow, it doesn't grind
~car has some rust surfacing but nothing that can't be fixed
~currently the car runs... but very rough. it has a slight miss on idle and anything above that it breaks up pretty bad. honestly, i'm not sure what the deal is there. so far we've replaced the above items plus had coil packs and icm tested, swapped cam pos. sensors and the idle air control valve with a buddies car... still did not fix the issue. have not done a compression test or checked the timing to make sure it's timed correctly but it was driveable for a short time after we purchased it. If i was to take a guess at it, i'd say it's fuel related (possibly a bad injector or fuel pressure reg.)
~top has a few small tears in the normal spots
~carpet has been removed due to it's condition when we purchased the car. didn't seem logical to put new in till the top is fixed.
all in all, it should make a good car once the bugs are ironed out. i just don't have the time or money to continue to do that at this point.
i'm looking for $1000. keep in mind, the vehicle will need towed to it's new home. depending on distance, I can probably bring it to you but buyer pays gas and u-haul tow dolly rental for me to get it there.
i'll try to get some pics up tonight and if i think of anything else, i'll also post it up. feel free to post up here or pm me with any questions.
Giving up on it, eh.
What is it gettin replaced with?
02 impreza outback sport wagon
: Looks at all the eco wiring harnesses laying around:
...hrrrrmmmmmmmm
go for it cody!!!
as I said, i'd continue to trouble shoot this thing but we just got financed on a subaru so this one has to go...
damn im interested but where to get 1k? i got a nice 2.4 that will fit in there
not for nothing, but if you recall the problems i was having with my 96, i swapped to a 97 harness/ecu and it fixed everything. maybe since 96 had a bastard ecu it was just a bad year and was prone to failure? either way, if you dont want to try it, maybe someone who buys the car will.
we just picked up a new car this weekend so this one has to go.
It's very possible that there is something with the 96 harness but the ecu should be fine. we purchased a brand new one as we thought the original may have taken a crap.
this baby is still for sale!
also have a set of goldines mounted on koni yellows with 00+ mounts (read: ready to drop in to any 95-05 j-body) for sale. looking to get $400. struts/springs are fairly low mileage.
would u take $750 and i would come get it?
would make a great project for a eco swap.....
actually, i've got somebody coming to look at the car saturday.
I really don't want to let it go for that cheap as it's worth more than $750 in parts alone (not to mention what i paid for the car plus what i've spent on replacement parts)... i'll let you know if they fall through...
Awesome man. Now its someone else's headache.
