2.0L head on a 2.2L

Can anyone tell me if the head from an 89 2.0L will fit on to a 94 2.2L, everything seems to be the same from what I have seen, but I'm not sure if the bolt pattern for the intake manifold is the same.

Which 2.0L? OHC or OHV? The OHC will not fit, the OHV will, but I'm pretty sure the intake manifold is different.

Also- please fill out your registry. It makes it easier so we don't have to ask what your car is.

the head will bolt up to the 94 block, but have to use the tbi intake if using the 2.0 head.

note: if you are wanting to put the 94 block and the 2.0l head into a 87-91 car. remember to use the pushrods from the 2.2l , they are shorter than the ones from a 87-91 years...

probally not explained good but i gave my two cents

If the 2.0 motor is in a sunbird its a OHC, if its in a cavy then its a OHV I'm pretty sure the one your talking about is OHV cause you said the rest of the motor looks the same, I know it will work my cousin did it about a month ago. rgarnman, You lost me .......from what I understood from your post was, if your putting a 2.0 head on a 94 block, use the pushrods from the 2.2 cause the push rods are shorter than the ones in 87-91........Why would you want to use shorther pushrods?

Thanks for the help, the car is a 94 Cavalier Z22. I bought it a few months back. I had an 89 Cavalier sedan with the 2.0, but it suffered from severe rust damage. The head on the Z22 is screwed because the previous owner over bored one of the spark plug holes after breaking off a plug, then broke a thread tap in the plug hole.

the 94-97 2gen have roller lifters = shorter pushrods
the 87-93 2gen have hydraulic lifters = longer pushrods

Mr.Efficiency, I just didn't want him to use the 2.0l pushrods in his 94 engine by mistake, because they are longer than the ones for the 2.2l. and if you put the 2.0l pushrods in a 94 -2.2l you will have them all bend on ya.

hope this answers your question.

if i am wrong some one please correct me....

The 90 head will bolt onto the 94 block just fine, but dont you need to cut the slots in the intake runners on the 90 head for injector clearance?

I'm not sure, I know the block is a 94 and the head is from a phase1 2.0 OHV cavy and he has a intake manifold from a 98 2.2, cause it was the only one he could find at the time, I dont know why he changed the intake but he never mentioned any clearance probs, I could ask him if you want. He might even reply to this cause I told him about this site a while back, but I havent talked to him since and that was about a month ago, I dont see him to often.
